Tongling's bronze culture has a long history, and there are copper smelting sites in Shang Dynasty. There are all kinds of bronze sculptures at the main intersections of the city. Tongling is located in the plain of the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. Surrounded by mountains on three sides, one faces the Yangtze River. Mineral resources are extremely rich, including gold, silver, copper, iron, tin, ginger, garlic and hemp, commonly known as "eight treasures". In addition, the peony produced in Fenghuang Mountain in Tongling, together with the peony in Heze and Luoyang, Shandong Province, is also known as the hometown of the three major peonies in China. The peony in Tongling is a medicinal peony and sells well all over Southeast Asia.

Tongling, alias Dingling and Yi 'an, is a municipality under the jurisdiction of Anhui Province, and Tongling has a long history. Because of its name, copper is famous as "the ancient copper capital of China and the contemporary copper base". The history of copper mining and smelting began in Shang and Zhou Dynasties, flourished in Han and Tang Dynasties, and lasted for more than 3,500 years. The first copper bath and the first copper ingot in New China are all from Tongling. Tongling built the first copper industrial base, and Tongling issued the first copper stock. Copper culture has become the core element of urban culture, and copper economy has become the most distinctive foundation of a strong city. Bronze carving enjoys a high reputation in China, and the China Bronze Culture Expo held every two years has a certain influence at home and abroad.
