Similarities and differences between literary works and film and television works
In fact, the difference between literary works and film and television works is the difference between poetry and painting. Although they are all arts, they bring different feelings to people.

Literary works are "poems" and film and television dramas are "paintings".

Different readers may have different views on a work. As the saying goes, "A thousand readers have a thousand Daiyu Lin" means this. It can be seen that the characters created in literary works are multiple. But only from the text, we only know what the characters in the novel are like in general, but what are the details? Everyone's preconceived understanding of the images depicted in famous books is quite different. In the process of reading, everyone will inadvertently add the criterion of beauty in their hearts to the characters.

This aesthetic is very similar to "Platonic love". This is different from the so-called "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". The reason is the same. The characters in the works in the eyes of readers are no longer their original bodies, but the products of readers' idealization. In a word, the characters you think are already "artistic and natural".

This is judged by aesthetic feeling, which is subjective, but also universal. But this character image needs someone to feel the typical possibility, and people can't create it completely with their heart. Moreover, beauty is not entirely in external things, nor is it entirely in people's hearts. It is the "baby" produced by the heart knot. Aesthetic feeling comes from intuition of image. Image belongs to things, but not completely to things, because without me, there is no reason to see images; Intuition belongs to me but not entirely to me, because intuition cannot be separated from things. Therefore, there must be human feelings and physics in the United States and China.

Now, from the perspective of aesthetic subject and aesthetic mode, the aesthetic subject of film and television works basically points to the public, while the aesthetic subject of Shuihu can be said to come from the public and the knowledge level. In this way, different aesthetic subjects make film and television have different themes and stories.

Moreover, film and television works should have the same requirements as general narrative works, such as shaping typical images, revealing profound themes and building a complete structure, and should have independent appreciation value.

However, due to the limitation of conditions, its structure must follow the principle of high concentration of time and space.

If film and television are regarded as an art, it is to create reality through various forms and combine various technical elements to turn technology into an aesthetic element of art, which is neither monotonous information transmission nor boring. The combination of pictures, dialogues, music, acoustics and actual sounds aims to create a vivid perceptual world. The image of the picture guides the main composition of the work, and the image of the sound enriches the connotation of the work. The sense of space and aftertaste of the dialogue (text) makes people see the reality in the virtual and has far-reaching artistic conception.

Because the film and television works we see are all works that the director understands and processes on the basis of the original works. It is a kind of "re-creation". Therefore, there is a big gap between film and television works and the original works. Of course, this is also because the aesthetic subject is the public, and the director needs to strive for relative stability to adapt to the audience's low reading ability.

Moreover, film and television works mainly rely on characters to express their personality with their own language and actions. Although the script is the foundation, the actor's performance is the center. The basic means for actors to play roles are language and action.

Gorky said: "The characters in the play are only created by their lines, that is, pure spoken language, not narrative language."

It can be seen that the main expression of language in novels is narration and description. In film and television works, the development of the story, the revelation of the character's personality, and the writer's evaluation and attitude towards the character's time are generally completed through task dialogue.

So when we watch the film and television work "The Water Margin", because the character image is expressed by the actor, then this character image is unique, that is, the image of the actor. This image will be fixed in the audience's mind. The space left for the viewer's imagination is much smaller, or even absent. Once this image is fixed, it will not be conducive to the understanding of the original, because this visually fixed image does not conform to the preset character image you imagined on the basis of your understanding of the original.

Therefore, film and television works are both "enlarged art" and "reduced art". (For movies and TV shows, respectively. )

Moreover, literary works focus on the conciseness of language and the development of artistic conception; Film and television works pay more attention to visual effects, such as scenes, stunts and other arrangements.
