IPv6 application/art/1716/20030324/41356 _1.html

There are many wonderful new services on the mobile Internet, and IPv6 will be the key to realize these services. In the near future, when everyone will carry one or more mobile terminals, IPv6 will provide unique IP addresses for all mobile terminals. In addition to other advantages of IPv6, this function alone can realize direct communication between individuals.

Although IPv4 can provide hundreds of millions of IP addresses, considering the exponential growth of mobile terminal users, it is definitely not a suitable solution. At present, there are more than 700 million mobile terminals in the world, and the trend of mobile terminals has just begun. The next wave of terminals, including doors and automatic burglar alarms, has appeared.

The future of IPv6

In any case, the future of IPv6 will not be smooth sailing. Is the result victory or failure? Time will tell us the answer!

Why do you need IPv6?

First, why do you need IPv6?

The IP protocol we are using now is IPv4 designed more than 20 years ago. Initially, it was designed as a data-specific protocol. It has been performing well for a long time. However, with the rapid popularization and development of various applications, especially in the fields of multimedia and mobile communication, IPv4 has gradually exposed its insurmountable defects.

First, the limited address space makes many applications unnecessary. Although technologies such as CIDR, DHCP, NAT and Proxy have slowed down the exhaustion of IPv4 address space to a great extent (at present, 37% of IPv4 addresses have not been allocated), with a large number of new electronic devices entering people's lives, in the future, except computers, cars, mobile phones and even watches, people are increasingly hoping to get all-weather access services. Some studies think that the IPv4 address will be in 2065438. Whether the research is accurate or not, one day you will be exhausted. More importantly, these technologies to prevent IP exhaustion have brought unnecessary treatment and even restricted some applications to a great extent.

Secondly, IPv4 is not competent for some applications or its running efficiency is low. With the introduction of VoIP, mobile IP and other applications, IPv6 retains most of the excellent features of IPv4 in the design process, and attempts to change from the original data-specific protocol to a multimedia protocol that can carry various services. The IPv6 working group of IETF firmly believes that IPv6 is comparable to ATM.

Although IPv6 has not officially entered the market, many institutions have started testing and research in this field, and it has been gradually supported by mainstream operating systems and network hardware devices. It can be predicted that IPv6 is not as far away as we thought.
