Yesterday, I attended the pre-defense meeting of senior three students' graduation thesis, and their graduation thesis had many problems. According to the comments of four teachers, I made some notes and sorted out several pits that are easy to encounter in the process of writing papers.
This article will share these points, hoping to help the friends who want to write papers.
1.? Problem consciousness
Question awareness, that is, what problems can your article solve in your field? What is the purpose of your writing this article?
The topic of the paper should be simple and direct, and it should also be able to clearly express your views and problems.
A good paper, a look at the title will know where the focus of this article is and what kind of problems to solve. The most taboo of the paper is that the focus is not prominent, or even has no focus.
At the pre-defense meeting, the four tutors pointed out that the most common problem was the lack of "problem consciousness" in the paper. If a paper can't solve a problem, isn't it innovation? If there is no innovation, what is the value of this paper?
2. The titles don't match
Will there be such low-level mistakes in graduate thesis? Shouldn't digression be a common mistake made by primary school students?
But the fact is that the inconsistency of topics is one of the most common problems besides "problem consciousness".
The ideas in the title of the paper should be demonstrated in the article, or the whole article is to demonstrate your topic. After the title of the paper is determined, the content of the paper should be consistent with the views expressed in the title. The impossible topic is one theme, but the article demonstrates another theme.
3. Choose your theme carefully
My tutor often says: if the topic is selected well, the paper is half done.
The topic of the paper is as detailed as possible, and a certain point is comprehensively demonstrated to minimize the dimension. The topic of the paper should have a clear scope, or indicate your own research scope in the paper.
The perspective/starting point of topic selection is also very important, which determines the direction of your writing.
This concept is very clear.
Which theory should you use in your paper? At least you should know the definition, background, significance, advantages and disadvantages of this theory. At the same time, the key theories appearing in the article should also be clearly defined.
Why use this theory as the theoretical basis of the thesis? You should also make it clear in the article.
Finally, you should be clear about this. The theory you choose is just a tool for you to achieve your research goals. Your purpose is not to explain this theory, but to draw a conclusion through this theory.
In the process of early defense, many seniors learned to focus on explaining the theory, which is a deviation. Theory is only your tool, not your purpose.
5. The source of the cited documents is clear.
The materials, data and cases cited in the paper should be given reasons, because they are easy to collect. Is it still representative? Anyway, make it clear in the article.
Another point is that the literature is quoted in the article, and the author and source of the cited literature are clearly defined. On the one hand, we should respect the achievements of others' labor, on the other hand, we can show the authority of the article.
What needs special attention is "citation". If you can find the source of the document, don't quote it, double the original document yourself. If you can't find the original document, don't quote it directly to show authority. Some literature teachers can't find it. If you find it and let you take it out, it will be embarrassing if you can't take it out then.
6. Profound analysis
The thesis is an academic analysis, not a description of phenomena, and needs profound analysis. After describing the phenomenon, you should be able to see the underlying reasons.
At the pre-defense meeting, many papers of seniors and sisters were directly explained by teachers, not like papers, but brochures.
This is back to "problem consciousness". If you don't ask questions, you won't try to solve problems.
7. Reasonable structure
The structure of the whole article should be reasonable, step by step, interlocking and not fragmented. In a good paper, every part shows the point of view in the theme.
At the same time, the title of the section should not be too scattered, around a center, not paragraph by paragraph.
8. Full text comparison
Comparing articles, the frame of reference should be clear, and it is best to compare the whole text.
9. Fluent writing and concise expression
You can write a paper without literary talent, but you must express it clearly and fluently, and try to avoid saying "nonsense".
Many students found many good cases when writing their papers, so they thought about how to cram them into the papers, thinking that this would increase the strength of argument. However, no matter how good the case is, as long as it has nothing to do with the theme of the article, we must give up decisively, otherwise it will only make the teacher feel perfunctory.
In addition, the opinions put forward should be justified, and teachers should not find loopholes. The content of the expression should be complete, and the teacher should not be left and right for a while, making the teacher feel foggy.
10. There should not be too few references.
A graduation thesis needs at least 50 references.
1 1. The innovation is obvious.
What are the innovations in your paper and where are they reflected? All these should be clearly expressed in front of the paper. Don't be too subtle, let the teacher think that you have no innovative spirit.
12. Plagiarism
No matter how the article is written, don't copy other people's articles directly. If the teacher finds out, the consequences will be very serious.
At yesterday's defense meeting, the tutor found that a classmate's article was very similar to an article he had read, and he expressed it implicitly many times in the process of commenting.
I didn't make it clear in order to save face for that classmate. If plagiarism is found in the process of formal defense, the consequence may be delay, so be careful!
