Since then, he has been engaged in literary activities in Shanghai and Qingdao for a long time.

The novel Shan Yu was published in 1933. This masterpiece, which marks the new development of realism, reflects the reality of the rapid collapse of rural economy in northern China under the heavy pressure of imperialism, feudal forces and warlords. Because the work exposed the darkness of society, it was banned by the authorities the following year. The author was also forced to leave Shanghai and visit ancient literature and art in Europe at his own expense.
