The meaning of words is reserved for reading. Many people like to learn pronunciation by watching phonetic symbols by themselves. This method has two disadvantages. First, if you want to think about how to pronounce, the learning speed will be slower; Second, the pronunciation learned in this way may be stiff or incorrect. In fact, learning pronunciation should listen to word tapes, and phonetic symbols are only used as auxiliary tools. Pronunciation with the tape can be more correct without thinking.
I think the best way to learn words is this: buy a word book with a tape, divide 200 words into a group, three times a day for seven days, and read the words well. How familiar is it? When reading a word on tape, you can blurt out the pronunciation of the next word without looking at the phonetic symbols (even words). It's like listening to a music tape.
Follow the words you have learned in a two-week cycle (you can record them yourself to speed up). This cycle is independent of learning words. Even if you learn 10000 words, you can review them for half an hour every day for two weeks.
Reading and learning should also choose textbooks with tapes (the benefits of having tapes are similar to learning words). First, carefully understand the unknown words in the article, then achieve the effect of reciting them, and then read the article several times with the tape. Most of the words learned while reading will appear in the two-week word review. At this time, you will have a feeling that you have learned before.
Although I don't like English exams, let's analyze them. In the English exam, except for spelling words in the final composition, all questions need to be ticked A, B, C and D, so you don't need to remember spelling when memorizing words. If you keep reviewing in order to prevent spelling forgetting, the time spent is not worth it. Start doing the questions two months before the exam, strengthen listening and single choice. Because I usually learn articles with tapes, I don't need to strengthen reading training. Do more than a dozen articles before the exam and get familiar with the questions. Two months before the exam, recite more than a dozen compositions and learn the spelling of the words in them by heart. Although you won't test the same questions in the exam, try to use the sentence patterns and words in the composition you recite. After entering the university, I have an understanding. If the words recited are useless, what is the use of reciting them? So I don't recite the word manual, but I learn words completely by reading. This method completely eliminates memorizing the word manual, but it also has some defects. But when I memorized the words in high school, I had already left the impression of CET-4 words, so I quickly consolidated these words. Because there are always unknown words in the text, I began to think about the contradiction between memorizing words and reading. Memorizing a word manual can quickly write down many words, but soon forget them; Memorizing words by reading, forgetting to record words is slow, but memorizing words is also slow, and unfamiliar words will always be encountered. Because I read the text with a repeater and followed the tape, I found the advantages of having a tape, and because of the defects in the method of reading and learning words, I bought a six-level word manual with tape. At first, it was a combination of card English. Later, I found that instead of memorizing dozens of words every day and reviewing them for five days, it is better to divide two or three hundred words into a group and memorize them for more than ten days. Because although each group will be exposed to hundreds of unknown words at the beginning, each word can be exposed for more than ten days, more than twice as long as five days. Because there is only one tape in the vocabulary manual of Band 6, and I realize that I can't forget it unless I keep reviewing it. So I began to think about memorizing all the words of Band 6 every day. A tape is only 60 minutes long, which is completely affordable every day. I also found a phenomenon, if disturbed, it will be more difficult to recite words, but once recited, it will be stronger. If you listen to the pronunciation of words while walking, you can also remember the explanation of words. You hardly need to think about remembering this word in the classroom. So I listen to the tape and recite words while walking, but this method makes me too nervous and harmful, so I won't use it again.
After that, I began to recite GRE vocabulary, because even after memorizing CET-6 vocabulary, there were still many words I didn't recite when I read the text. The average foreigner will come into contact with more than 15 thousand words, which is similar to GRE vocabulary. The number of words in GRE is three times that of CET-6, so I began to realize that it is impossible to review all the words once a day, so I want to do it once a week, but the speed of forgetting is faster than that of consolidating. Finally, we can only review with reading, and extend the cycle to two weeks.
After reciting the words, I began to read a lot. My reading steps are as follows: first, read the article, draw a line below when you meet words you don't know, and then look up the word list at the back of the article. If there is no word list, look it up in an electronic dictionary and add words and their explanations to the word list. After reading the article, I read two rounds of words and spelled every word twice in each round (that's how I learned to spell). Then read the article twice, and then read the new article. The next day, read the words and articles of the first day according to the above method. Read the new article again, so as to ensure that all the articles have been read and reviewed.
I don't study English now except reading words every two weeks. I forgot all the words I memorized, but I can still read them very well, so I don't think it's necessary to memorize words. Just read them well. Keep the books you have learned well and review them before taking the English exam in the future to restore yourself to the original level.

Reading English on tape integrates reading, listening and reading. So I don't want to read articles without tapes when I study English. In the first few days, because a large number of words are unfamiliar, the speed is very slow, and it is impossible to recite all the words in half an hour. After half an hour, I stopped pressing the stop button and read the rest of the words on tape. Now I think it may be better to use reading instead of the above method, but I don't know the actual effect because I haven't done the experiment.
