Guo Kexin's Outstanding Contribution
Mr. Guo Kexin has made outstanding contributions to China's scientific research and made outstanding achievements in physical metallurgy, especially in the study of crystal structure and defects and quasicrystals.

As early as when I was studying in Sweden, I made a lot of research results and made original work in the carbide structure of alloy steel. Representative papers have been listed as international classics.

After returning to China, he continued to engage in the research of metal materials. In the early 1960s, together with other researchers, he initiated the research on the microstructure of transmission electron microscope.

Since 1970s, on the one hand, Mr. Guo Kexin has done a lot of research work on the geometric analysis of electron diffraction patterns;

On the other hand, the computer program design of automatic calibration of electron diffraction patterns, especially the application of "reduced cell" in the analysis and research of electron diffraction calibration of unknown structures, has reached the international level.

His two monographs, Application of Electron Diffraction Diagram in Crystallography and High Resolution Electron Microscopy, have made important contributions to promoting electron microscopy and its application in China's materials science.

From 1980, Mr. Guo Kexin took the lead in introducing high-resolution electron microscope in China and began to directly observe the crystal structure from atomic scale.

198l-1984, under his auspices, successfully developed the field ion microscope/atomic probe, and won the second prize of scientific and technological progress of China Academy of Sciences;

1982, leading the study of electron diffraction and electron micrograph of crystal fine structure, won the third prize of national natural science; During this period, six new phases and various domain structures were found in the study of new equidomain structures of tetrahedral dense packing phases, which broke the stagnation of this field for more than 20 years and won the first prize of scientific and technological progress of China Academy of Sciences.

1985, the research group led by him discovered five-fold rotational symmetry and Ti-V-Ni icosahedral quasicrystals, which had an important influence in international academic circles and won high praise, and was called "China phase". 1987 won the first prize of the National Natural Science.

1988 discovered eight-fold rotational symmetric quasicrystals and twelve-fold symmetric quasicrystals, and won the third prize of national natural science. 1988 stable Al-Cu-Co quasicrystals with ten rotational symmetries and one-dimensional quasicrystals were discovered, and won the second prize in natural science of China Academy of Sciences.

1993 won the physics prize of the Third World Academy of Sciences.

1994 won the He Liang Heli Science and Technology Progress Award.

In the long-term scientific research work, Mr. Guo Kexin has trained a large number of talents for the research of metal material physics and electron microscopy in China, and the talents are all over the world. Since the restoration of the postgraduate system, more than 100 graduate students have been trained, and a number of outstanding talents have been trained for the development of materials science, crystallography and electron microscopy in China. Among them, Ye Hengqiang and Zhang Ze have been elected academicians of China Academy of Sciences, and more than 10 people have been promoted to professors and researchers.
