Functional polymer materials are the core courses of polymer materials, composite materials, material chemistry and applied chemistry. It is a comprehensive course based on polymer chemistry and polymer physics, which intersects with other disciplines such as physics, biology, medicine and separation science. Because it covers a wide range of fields, such as adsorption and separation functional polymer materials, reaction functional polymer materials, electrical functional polymer materials, light functional polymer materials, polymer functional membrane materials, biomedical functional polymer materials, liquid crystal polymer materials, environmentally sensitive polymer materials and so on. The teaching quality of this course is very important for students to deeply understand the design, characterization and application of functional polymers. Considering that the course of functional polymer materials is usually offered in the next semester of junior year or the last semester of senior year, students are faced with problems such as reviewing for postgraduate entrance examination and finding a job, so it is difficult to settle down and study in depth.

Therefore, it is difficult to achieve satisfactory teaching results by using traditional teaching methods. In view of these problems, combined with the actual teaching situation of polymer materials specialty in our school, the teaching of functional polymer materials was explored from the aspects of textbook selection, teaching content and teaching methods. Below, the author will talk about his own experience.

1 Selection of teaching materials and content description Since the birth of polymer science in China, functional polymer materials have developed very rapidly, and there are more than ten kinds of teaching materials seen in China at present. Due to the rapid development of functional polymer materials, in order to obtain the latest knowledge, we can't choose those textbooks with older publication years. In addition, we must ensure the quality of textbook compilation. After comparing different textbooks, combined with the reality of our school, we finally chose the textbook published by Zhao, Editor-in-Chief and Chemical Industry Press in 2008. Based on the 1996 edition, this textbook has added many new research contents about functional polymers, and deleted some contents according to the actual situation. After a period of trial use of the textbook, we found that the effect was good. In addition, in view of the contradiction between limited class hours and many teaching contents, we should highlight the key points of teaching, select the most popular and important parts for intensive lectures, and briefly talk about other parts or parts that students should learn by themselves.

2 The combination of multimedia teaching and traditional teaching methods Multimedia teaching refers to the process of teaching activities by using computers and pre-made teaching courseware. Compared with traditional teaching methods, it has the advantages of large classroom capacity, illustrated pictures, vivid images, and easy to highlight the key and difficult points of teaching. In recent years, more and more courses have begun to implement multimedia teaching. There are many new concepts in functional polymer materials, involving a wide range of fields. With the help of multimedia technology, students can not only intuitively show examples of functional polymer design, but also insert appropriate examples of production and life, making the abstract and boring course of functional polymer materials more concrete and vivid. At the same time, it should be noted that the quality of multimedia teaching depends largely on the level of teaching courseware. Therefore, teachers should strive to improve the production level of teaching courseware. In addition, we also notice that the progress of multimedia teaching is obviously faster than that of traditional blackboard writing teaching. In this way, it is difficult for students to fully understand some particularly important theoretical formulas through multimedia teaching, and traditional blackboard teaching methods should be adopted. Therefore, we should adopt the teaching method of combining multimedia teaching with traditional teaching, and make corresponding adjustments according to the teaching content, which not only ensures students' interest in the course, but also enables students to truly understand the knowledge of functional polymer materials.

Connecting with the reality of life, the functional polymer materials to be described are introduced, and the functional polymer materials to be introduced are introduced by taking the actual cases in life or the latest scientific and technological progress in news reports as examples. This can not only make students realize the importance of functional polymer materials and improve their learning enthusiasm, but also let them know the latest research results and improve their interest in scientific research. For example, starting from the environmental protection issues that are of great concern to the whole world, this paper introduces the functional polymer materials used for wastewater and waste gas treatment, and introduces the design ideas and principles of these functional polymer materials, so that students can deeply understand the functional polymer knowledge they have learned from the perspective of combining theory with practice. At the same time, we can also put forward some shortcomings of materials in life, so that students can give full play to their subjective initiative, propose methods to solve these shortcomings or design new functional polymer materials. In this way, students' interest in learning will be greatly improved and the teaching effect will be obviously improved.

Using network resources, keeping up with the latest research progress and supplementing new teaching content in real time is a rapidly developing discipline. Every once in a while, new research results will be born. According to the situation, those popular and important research results should be added to the teaching content in real time, so that students can understand the latest knowledge of functional polymers and improve their interest in functional polymers. Internet is rich in resources and the content is updated quickly, which is the best way for teachers to supplement teaching content. At present, it is a popular form for students to use network resources as an auxiliary means of classroom teaching. Teachers can make a functional polymer web page and provide links to the latest research results for students to browse. At the same time, students can also be encouraged to search the latest research results on the Internet and then convey them to their classmates in the form of oral reports in class. In this way, students can not only have a comprehensive understanding of functional polymer materials, but also actively participate in teaching and achieve better teaching results.

In interactive teaching, the classroom teaching in which students make "academic reports" is the key link in teaching. How to inspire students to think positively and arouse their enthusiasm for learning is a problem that teachers have been exploring. In view of the many fields involved in functional polymer materials, several topics can be selected from the hot fields as report topics, and then students can be divided into several groups to complete the work of finding information and sorting out speeches. Finally, each group chooses one person as a representative to make an "academic report", and each group asks each other questions.
