Discussion on teaching reform of computer composition principle for network engineering specialty

Principles of Computer Organization is one of the core professional courses of network engineering, which plays a connecting role in the whole professional course and plays a key role in the cultivation of network engineering professionals. 1 preface

Computer network is the second product of the development of computer science and technology, which is produced with the development of computer, communication and multimedia technology. Network engineering specialty is a new specialty with rapid development and wide application, which is characterized by the high integration of modern computer software and hardware technology, network communication technology and related field knowledge. This major was newly added in 200 1 China. At present, many universities in China have set up network engineering majors.

Principles of Computer Organization is a core professional basic course for computer-related majors, so it is also the main course for network engineering majors. From the course orientation, it is one of the core professional courses of network engineering specialty, which plays a connecting role in the whole professional course and plays a key role in the cultivation of network engineering professionals. The course "Principles of Computer Organization" for computer science and technology majors mainly introduces the functions, compositions and working principles of various components of microcomputers. The experiment is also carried out around the microcomputer, and its main task is to cultivate students' ability to analyze, apply, design and develop the hardware structure of the microcomputer. However, in addition to microcomputers, the network engineering industry often uses servers. Therefore, students majoring in network engineering need to master some knowledge of server hardware. Therefore, it is not appropriate to completely copy the computer composition principle of computer science and technology specialty to network engineering specialty. How to combine the theoretical teaching and experimental teaching of computer organization principle with the actual situation of network engineering specialty and improve students' experimental ability is a very important and urgent task in the teaching of computer organization principle. Based on this situation, we put forward the teaching reform and experimental mode of the course "Principles of Computer Organization" for network engineering specialty.

2 Teaching content reform

Simplify the contents of the course "Principles of Computer Organization" for computer science and technology majors, remove some remote and abstruse contents, integrate the principles of computer organization with the contents of server hardware, comprehensively and systematically introduce the basic composition and working principles of computers, and then introduce the basic knowledge of servers and various technologies of servers, such as server architecture and storage technology. The hardware structure of the server is much more complicated than that of the microcomputer, so the basic knowledge of the server and the introduction of various technologies should be placed behind the microcomputer in the arrangement order of teaching content.

Today, with the rapid development of computer technology, new knowledge and technology are constantly emerging, which makes people dizzying. Students will think that the teaching content is too old and lose interest in the course, and even feel disgusted with the course. How to correctly guide students to understand new knowledge and technology within limited teaching time and on the premise of mastering basic knowledge, and improve students' interest in the course and their ability to understand new knowledge and technology is also the main problem in the theoretical teaching content reform of the course "Principles of Computer Organization". Therefore, in the choice of theoretical teaching content, we abide by the following three principles: (1) explain the composition principle, operation principle, logical realization, design method and how to organize them into a single microcomputer computer system with von Neumann structure. (2) Highlight the problem of * * * in microcomputer. In the teaching process, the basic concepts, basic principles and specific implementation methods are mainly explained, while those distant and profound contents are removed. On the premise of mastering basic knowledge, properly guide students to understand the frontier knowledge of microcomputer. (3) Introduce the concept, system structure, hard disk system and network storage technology of server on the basis of microcomputer, and properly guide students to understand the cutting-edge knowledge of server on the premise of mastering basic knowledge.

3 teaching mode

The principle of computer organization is a very abstract course, and the traditional teaching mode can't describe the internal composition and working principle of the computer vividly. Therefore, on the basis of multimedia courseware, we use simulation software to simulate the function of computer system. Through the simulation system, students can intuitively see the data path between components in the computer, the scheduling of data flow pipeline, the data association and control-related processing when instructions are executed step by step, which simplifies and visualizes complex and abstract problems and attracts students' attention.

In the teaching process, we should integrate theory with practice, build a bridge between basic knowledge and new knowledge, and inspire students to understand new knowledge and technology with the basic knowledge mastered in class. For example, after explaining the basic concept and working principle of DRAM, we should also introduce DDR SDRAM, the mainstream product of DRAM on the market at present, so that students can compare its technical characteristics, understand the new development trend of DRAM and improve their understanding and self-learning ability. When explaining the server, we should compare it with the microcomputer, so that students can understand why the server adopts different architecture and other technologies from the microcomputer.

4 experimental reform

We carry out experimental reform from two aspects: experimental content and experimental mode.

(1) Reform of experimental content. On the basis of the original microcomputer experiments, such as calculator experiment, memory experiment and controller experiment, experiments closely related to network engineering specialty have been added, such as testing server performance experiment, disk array configuration experiment and dual-machine hot standby experiment. The server performance test experiment enables students to master the judgment method of server performance and can simply test the server performance. The experiment of disk array configuration can enable students to master the method of using software or hardware RAID cards to configure disk arrays, be familiar with the advantages and disadvantages of RAID at all levels, configure RAID at all levels, and choose RAID levels according to their own needs. The experiment of dual-machine hot standby enables students to master the function of dual-machine hot standby using Windows Server2003 operating system and test its performance.

(2) The experiment is open. In the past, we provided the same experiment to all students, without fully considering the students' interest, ability and level gap. In order to meet the requirements of the employment market for talent knowledge, improve students' practical ability, meet the learning needs of students at different levels, and guide students to determine their own employment direction or research direction. We make a comprehensive evaluation of each experimental project, set its difficulty, training objectives and conformity with classroom teaching, define the experimental grade according to the above indicators, and then arrange the open order and open objects of experimental projects according to the different experimental grades. Students can design their own circuits, program topics, components and programming languages according to their own interests and abilities. The laboratory will also open all experimental platforms for students to use. In the process of open experimental teaching, we only examine the topics put forward by students, demonstrate the feasibility of the experimental scheme and check the final experimental results. Through the teaching of open experimental method, non-hardware majors can not only master the basic knowledge and skills as soon as possible, but also successfully complete the course of computer composition principle and subsequent professional courses, and can better meet the further learning requirements of hardware majors after completing normal study, cultivate their creative thinking and mobilize their enthusiasm, initiative and enthusiasm for learning.

5 concluding remarks

In 2004, East China Jiaotong University opened a network engineering major. Over the past few years, through continuous exploration and practice, we have completed the construction of excellent courses and the compilation of teaching materials, deepened the reform of course teaching, improved the level and quality of course teaching, and promoted the construction and development of network engineering majors and courses. At the same time, it plays a positive role in cultivating students' hardware design ability and solving practical problems. Through the study of this course, students can not only master the basic composition and working principle of microcomputer, but also master the server architecture and necessary server basic technology, and have the basic skills of server selection and server configuration. To lay a solid foundation for studying the follow-up courses of this major and engaging in hardware-related work. The curriculum reform enables us to cultivate applied talents in limited class hours, so that students can master the working principles of various parts of the computer system and have strong practical ability, thus stimulating students' subjective initiative in learning and changing the phenomenon that students majoring in computer science attach importance to theory, practice and software and hardware.
