Yangtze University is the largest comprehensive university in Hubei Province with the most comprehensive disciplines. It is one of the four high-level universities selected by the national "Promoting the Education Power Project" and one of the "National First-class Universities" in Hubei Province. In the past three years, the school has undertaken 2346 scientific research projects at all levels.
Approved by the Ministry of Education in April 2003, the school was formed by the merger of Jianghan Petroleum College, Hubei Agricultural College, Jingzhou Normal College and Hubei Medical College of Health Workers. The former Jianghan Petroleum Institute was formerly known as 1950, the Beijing Institute of Petroleum Technology, and 1978 began to hold general undergraduate education, belonging to China Oil and Gas Group.
There are 23 projects of National Natural Science Foundation 135, National Social Science Foundation and Humanities and Social Sciences Project of Ministry of Education, and breakthroughs have been made in outstanding youth science foundation projects and key projects. Won 26 national and provincial excellent teaching achievement awards. Published 78 academic monographs and 3,589 high-level papers. In recent five years, it has won national, provincial and ministerial scientific research achievement awards 150, including 3 national scientific and technological progress awards.

The school is an authorized unit for doctoral degrees, which trains talents of all levels and types. Oil and gas, green agriculture, and two "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan" Hubei superior characteristic subject groups; 16 "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" provincial key disciplines and key (cultivation) disciplines. At present, there are 33,405 full-time undergraduates in China, 7 132 full-time doctoral and master students, and more than 500 international students.
Five disciplines, including engineering, botany and zoology, agricultural science, earth science and clinical medicine, entered the global ranking of ESI with 1%. There are 75 undergraduate enrollment specialties (categories) in the school, including 6 national specialty specialties, 1 1 Hubei brand specialty, 25 national first-class undergraduate specialty construction sites and 24 provincial first-class undergraduate specialty construction sites.
