How to improve the academic quality of college students majoring in humanities and social sciences
"Academic accomplishment", as the name implies, is a person's basic academic quality and accomplishment. According to the interpretation of Ci Hai (version 1999), "learning" refers to more specialized and systematic knowledge; And learning is the floorboard of all kinds of knowledge. Inferred from this, "academic" means "more professional and systematic knowledge". But the author thinks that this explanation only reveals the static meaning of "academic". From a dynamic point of view, "learning" is an activity, that is, the behavioral process of inheritance, application and creation of specialized knowledge. Based on my own experience, this paper focuses on some matters that college students (mainly undergraduates) majoring in humanities and social sciences (mainly economic management) should pay attention to in improving their personal academic literacy. First of all, with the popularization of higher education in China, it is less and less possible for undergraduates to directly enter universities and scientific research institutions to engage in academic research after graduation, but this does not mean that their academic literacy is no longer important. The author believes that the necessity of improving undergraduate academic literacy is at least based on the following two points. First, many undergraduates will choose the way of further study (graduate school) after graduation, and it is very important for their future academic development to cultivate good academic literacy at the undergraduate stage; Second, even for those students who directly take part in practical work after graduation, good academic literacy is necessary, because they will encounter all kinds of complicated problems in practical work. Good academic literacy will help them analyze and solve problems in depth and help them grow into academic officials or "Confucian businessmen" in the new era. In order to improve their academic accomplishment, undergraduates should at least make efforts in the following aspects. First, we should lay a solid professional foundation, including theoretical foundation and methodological foundation. Mastering the basic theory and professional knowledge of this major is the starting point to improve college students' academic literacy. Only by mastering the basic theory and professional knowledge of a certain major can we talk about discovery, invention, creation and progress in this professional field. It is hard to imagine that a person who doesn't know much about professional basic theory and professional knowledge will contribute to the subject. Undergraduate course is a critical period for college students to learn and master professional basic theories and professional knowledge, and laying a good theoretical foundation at this stage will benefit them for life. Therefore, on the one hand, we should attach importance to classroom learning and master the knowledge of teaching materials; On the other hand, we should read all kinds of references extensively, understand and master the new theories and methods of this major, and form a solid theoretical foundation. Scientific method is another aspect of professional foundation. As we all know, as far as the basic composition of a subject is concerned, one is theory and the other is method. Method is as important as theory, even more important. As far as the major of economic management is concerned, the improvement of undergraduate methodology literacy needs to pay attention to the following aspects: First, pay attention to the study of Marxist philosophical principles. Marxist philosophy is the biggest and highest method. Qian Xuesen, a famous scientist in China, once said this after returning to China in 1950s: I thought I had mastered some good methods of engaging in scientific research through years of practice, but I didn't know it until I returned to China to study Marxist dialectical materialism. In fact, what I call a good method has long been made clear in Marxist philosophy. Second, we should pay attention to the study of advanced mathematics, computer technology, statistics and econometrics. Third, actively participate in various forms of social practice activities, and learn, experience and master the specific methods of social science through practice. Second, we should develop the habit of independent thinking. Although there are academic disputes in the field of natural science, it is more common to have different or even opposite explanations for the same problem in the field of social science. For example, there are different views on the nature and source of profits and the housing prices in China. This is determined by the duality of social science as both science and ideology. Therefore, from the undergraduate stage, we should pay attention to the cultivation of independent thinking habits and often compare a theory with its corresponding reality; Compare different theoretical viewpoints on the same problem ... through repeated comparison, find out the problem and think carefully, and then form your own opinions. There are two specific methods and techniques for reference. First, according to the problems encountered in the course study, think about one academic problem, instead of thinking about multiple academic problems in a period of time. The advantages of doing this are: concentration of energy, concentration of thinking, high information density, easy to generate sparks of thought and form their own opinions. The second is to actively carry out discussions and debates among students. Curriculum discussion is arranged in the curriculum teaching plan; Spontaneous free debate in student dormitory; Thematic discussions organized by student associations are all good forms to let go of ideas and explore academics. Third, to cultivate their good academic ethics, the essence of science is seeking truth. A person who seeks truth must first make himself true. It is necessary to put the cultivation of academic ethics in the primary position of improving personal academic literacy and integrate it into all aspects of personal study and life. We should start from little by little, from small things, and gradually form the habit of being a correct person and doing things seriously. If a person plagiarizes homework (including downloading from the Internet) and cheats in the exam, it will be difficult for him to have a correct academic attitude and standardized academic behavior, and it will be difficult for him to achieve academic achievements. This is self-evident. Fourth, we should take the initiative to enter the society, and the theory of participating in social practice comes from practice. Fundamentally speaking, the laboratory of social science is society; The research topic of social science is a problem existing in social practice; The answers to social science questions often exist in social practice. Therefore, the ability to enter society, understand society and study society is the most basic academic accomplishment of social science workers. College students should learn to master this skill from undergraduate. Due to the pressure of college entrance examination, students from rural areas do not understand the countryside; It is common that students from cities have never been to factories. This is especially unfavorable for college students majoring in humanities and social sciences. Therefore, after entering the university, students should actively use various opportunities to get in touch with society, observe society and study society. First, take advantage of the opportunity to go home during the holiday to visit, inspect and investigate in rural areas, industrial and commercial enterprises and urban streets. The research topic can be assigned by the teacher, or it can be a doubt or problem that you are interested in or encounter in your study. It is worth mentioning that you can get better exercise by participating in teachers' research activities, because there are specific guidance from teachers and more standardized questionnaires or forms for you to use. Second, conscientiously complete all practical teaching links arranged in the teaching plan, especially off-campus teaching practice and graduation practice, to avoid going through the motions. The third is to form the habit of observing society in daily life, such as going shopping in shopping malls and traveling abroad. We can use the theoretical knowledge we have learned to observe and think about practical problems. Here, the author will share with you two successful cases of college students participating in social surveys. One is the case of Coase, a Nobel laureate in economics and a representative of property rights economics. Coase used his vacation to investigate American steel enterprises in his third year of college, and later wrote a famous academic paper, The Nature of Enterprises, which has now become a classic work of property rights economics. The other is the case of China Rural Development Research Group, which existed in the early days of China's reform and opening up. Around 198 1 year, the "Development Group" organized students from Peking University, People's Congress and other universities to carry out rural surveys, and formed a series of valuable research reports, which played a very important role in the formation of rural reform policies in China at that time. Nowadays, many college students who participated in rural research have become influential figures in China's academic and political circles, such as Chen Xiwen, Du Ying, Zhou Qiren and Song Guoqing.
