What do you mean by self-citation rate?
We can understand its meaning literally. When the author is writing a paper, it seems that there is no problem to quote the content of his published article. When writing a paper, you can quote your own literature or other people's literature, but if the author only has his own literature, this practice is not recognized.

If an article only contains the contents of the literature published by the author without quoting other people's literature, it will be regarded as the author's rejection and disapproval of other people's scientific research achievements, and the article is suspected of excessive self-promotion. Although this is not a serious academic misconduct, it is also an act with questionable academic attitude. This situation should be avoided when writing a thesis, because the author himself cannot be the only researcher in a certain field.
