Founded in 1955, it is a famous professional association devoted to the research, engineering and application in the fields of optics, photonics and electronics. The society gathers engineers from different disciplines related to high-speed optical measurement technology. Since then, optical engineering has developed from a mixed discipline involving physics, power engineering, material science and other disciplines to an independent discipline. At the same time, SPIE has developed into an important international organization, which is dedicated to almost all subsidiary fields related to optics and photonics, as well as related engineering, technology and commercial applications. SPIE is a non-profit organization with about 15000 members worldwide. The Society holds more than 350 international technical seminars and various short-term courses and teaching activities every year.
