Today, I will share with you a ps channel cutout. In fact, there are many methods of matting, such as magic wand, pen and quick mask. What is the significance of channel matting? In fact, the passage is mainly used to pick hair, such as human hair, animal hair and so on.

First, let's look at the original picture.

I chose a picture with an uncomplicated background, which is mainly helpful for beginners to understand the channel matting, because if the background is complicated, many small colors need to be chosen in the middle, which is a bit confusing to understand.

Then we'll see what happens when we finally dig it up.

Regarding the principle of channel, white represents complete choice, and black represents no choice. Based on this principle, we only need to find a way to distinguish the portrait and background into black and white, and then we can finish the matting.

Then let's get started.

First, import the original image into PS software, and copy a layer with the shortcut key Ctrl+J. Then open the channel layer, and we choose the channel with the largest black-and-white contrast between people and background, which is most conducive to image matting. Below I will take screenshots of the three channels of red, green and blue, and compare them.

Because the difficulty lies in picking hair, it is important to see which contrast between hair and background is greater. It is clearly a green channel, so we will copy the green channel.

Then select the copied green channel, and use the shortcut key Ctrl+L to adjust the color level to strengthen the color contrast between the hair and the background. Be careful not to adjust too much here, because you will lose the transparency of your hair.

Principle of channel matting: white is the selection area and black is the non-selection area. Moreover, the graph we get is obviously reverse, so we use the shortcut key Ctrl+I to reverse it.

Next is a delicate job. We need to paint all the people we want to dig white with a brush. There's no hurry here. Draw slowly. Some places are curved, so you need a pen to choose and fill it with white.

Do it slowly and finally paint it like this.

Then we use the shortcut key Ctrl+L to adjust the color scale and strengthen the contrast. The background is not pure black in some places, so we paint it black directly with a brush.

Then import the selection and return to the Layers panel to create a layer mask.

Even if the rough matting is finished, let's see the effect.

It looks ok, but it's not. How to see if the matting is successful? Let me tell you a good method. If you change the background to a solid color such as big red or big green, you will find the problem.

You will find that the hair on the side is not perfect. This is not difficult. Let's select the layer mask we just created, right-click and select Adjust Edge.

Adjust the radius and purify the color, and the final effect will be perfect.
