What is the main idea of Mohism? Compare it with Confucianism ~
Confucianism emphasizes governing the country by virtue and advocates exemplary role; Mohism follows the road of totalitarianism and advocates obedience to superiors (Shang Tong). (I'm afraid everyone is familiar with the phrase "everything at the top is wrong", which comes from Mozi. See the following materials. )

"Today is prosperous, the son of heaven to the right of the world, yue' smell its good and not smell its good, then tell it. The above must be all; What is not, is not. Everything in the world has its own rules, and everything in the world has its own merits and recommendations. Those at the same level but not at the same level will be rewarded at the next level and praised at the next level. If you smell good but not good, don't sue it; What is above, what can be done, what is above and what can't be done; There have been suggestions in the rules, and there are good ones under the recommendation; Those who are inferior to those who are not superior will be punished and destroyed by the people. "The thing in the world is that rewards and punishments are clear, and the judgment is very clear." ("Mozi? Same as above ")

"The world has been ruled, the right of heaven is always the justice of the world, and Shang Tong is in the sky. So Shang Tong said that the son of heaven, who is still in use, can rule the world; A vassal who is used in China can rule his country; If you use your family sparingly, you can rule your family. Therefore, the rule of great use is not conducive to the world, and the rule of small use is not horizontal. Therefore, if you rule the country of the world, if you rule a family; Be a man of the world, if you are a husband. Mozi, Italy's only son, had this, but my late king didn't? If it is evil, it is evil. The holy king is ruled by Shang Tong, so the world is ruled. " ("Mozi? Shang Tong ")

Confucianism is far away from ghosts and gods, people-oriented, and seeks human feelings by blood; Mohism does believe in ghosts and gods (providence, bright ghosts), and providence is the theoretical basis of universal love. Even people who are not related by blood love each other, because they are all children of God (similar to religion).

Confucianism is secular. Mohism is similar to religion, and the deep thoughts of the underworld are interlinked with Mohism. Yes, Mohism does represent the thoughts of small producers, so the expression of peasant "uprising" is often a big outbreak of Mohism, with Water Margin as the outstanding performance. Besides the Zhu Ming dynasty of Zhu Yuanzhang, a commoner, there is also the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom. The outstanding performance of these two regimes is self-evident to those who read history.

Regarding the frugality of Mohism, let's take a look at Li Zehou's words: "In short, it is very important to ensure the food and clothing of ordinary people, and all other consumption should be saved, prohibited and abolished as much as possible. In ancient times, when material wealth was far from abundant and workers were often hungry and cold, Mozi's thoughts were completely understandable. It is also of progressive significance to expose and attack the luxurious lives of aristocratic rulers. But the problem is that society is developing, production is expanding, surplus value is increasing, wealth is increasing and concentrating, and social consumption and social demand (especially the upper gentry) are expanding rapidly, which is an irresistible historical trend. Production and consumption are mutually causal and influence each other. Therefore, Mozi's attempt to greatly restrict or even prohibit people's consumption except for basic survival needs actually violates the objective laws of social development, which will not work and will not have any results. And this is the tragedy of the narrow vision of small-scale production workers. As workers, they are well aware of the difficulties of agricultural production and oppose all extravagance and waste; However, as small producers, they are seriously confined to the narrow environment they have heard and witnessed. They don't know that the consumption lifestyle of the upper class of society has become increasingly rich and luxurious due to the division between labor and ruling and being ruled, and the consumption requirements will increase day by day. They won't be satisfied with just eating and wearing warm clothes. It is only a fantasy to restrict them subjectively. " (Li Zehou: A Preliminary Study of Mohism)
