July 20 17, after missing out on the ideal university, I chose Tongji and made civil engineering my first choice. With ignorance of civil engineering, I came to Tongji. When I first entered Tongji, of course, the first thing I went to see was architecture. At first, I was disappointed Why are universities famous for their architecture only unsatisfactory? Until attending the freshman ceremony, the dean of Listening College mentioned in his report that Tongji Civil Engineering won the first prize in the world in the 20 17 civil engineering appraisal. From then on, I realized that as a member of the School of Civil Engineering, I have such honor and great responsibility. Since then, I have paid a little respect to the major of civil engineering.
Last school year, the two sentences I heard the most were "earth and wood" and "engineers are artists". "Civil engineering" mostly comes from our future work. Although I once thought it was too "earthy and wooden" to deal with reinforced concrete in the future, fortunately, in the course of "Civil Engineering and Civil Engineers", the teacher repeatedly emphasized that "engineers are artists" and let us make some simple models. We are always amazed at the beauty of a painting and a work of art, but as far as I am concerned, the model is also beautiful. After giving my brain and physical strength, I was so happy to see my team's "excellent works (haha, boast), and I was an artist at that moment.
? With the deepening of my study, I began to get in touch with professional knowledge. Under the guidance of my seniors and sisters, I got to know every building in our school carefully. Finally, I understand that there is a unique story behind every seemingly inconspicuous building, which is permeated with the wisdom crystallization and humanistic feelings of the older generation of Tongji engineers and architects. I realized that Tongji's story is so long, so ancient and so fascinating.
? After listening to Mr. Liu's report, I have a new understanding of civil engineering. Teacher Liu is knowledgeable and versatile, and his unique experience shows me another style of civil engineering scholars.
Mr. Liu is a member of the Standing Committee of China People's Political Consultative Conference and has attended many international conferences. What impressed me most was his interim report at an international conference in 2005. The chairman of the meeting invited Mr. Liu to make an interim report. After learning that a Japanese scholar is going to give a report at this international conference on "Engineering Disasters and Disaster Prevention and Mitigation", Mr. Liu readily agreed that there is only one requirement: Japanese scholars should give a report before him. Why is Teacher Liu persistent? Teacher Liu said that when I was a student, I spent my days in Japanese planes and cannons, and I was afraid every day. I haven't experienced that period of history, but I can't forgive the mistakes made by the Japanese, and I can't forgive Japan's current attitude towards China. I think Mr. Liu's mood is the same. When I saw a man who had invaded his country and threatened his life, I think Mr. Liu was filled with emotion. But scholars have the wisdom of scholars, and scholars have the choice of scholars.
? Teacher Liu said that he had heard many times about Japan's "achievements" and "contributions" in engineering disasters in the reports of Japanese scholars. Mr. Liu adjusted his report without hesitation. He condensed China's achievements and contributions in engineering disasters and disaster prevention and mitigation, and talked as much as possible about the challenges faced by China as a developing country (many foreign scholars tend to think that China is a developed country) and the countermeasures. According to Mr. Liu, there are still many people waiting in line to shake hands with him after the report (I have seen A Beautiful Mind, and I know what this means). In the middle paragraph, the person in charge of this meeting excitedly took his hand and said, "Sila, you spoke very well ..." After the story was finished, Mr. Liu told us that the Japanese people talked about achievements and contributions as if they were afraid that the world would forget him. This is the behavior of a small country, but it turns out. At that moment, I deeply understood that perhaps this is the wisdom of a scholar, defending his dignity and the dignity of a country in his own way.
? After listening to the story, I reviewed the history and found that there were many engineers in history, and some projects were built for the status and dignity of the country. Like many patriots, engineers fight for national dignity, but they choose and express themselves in different ways. They use their knowledge and works to tell foreigners that we in China can not only do it, but also do it well. Although most engineers are rooted in the construction of every place in China and enthusiastic civil workers claim to write their papers on the land of China, I want to talk about not only the land of the motherland, but also every corner of the world and even the future outer space.
? Although my knowledge has not even crossed the threshold of civil engineering, I believe that engineers are artists, and I will love this major and find my place in it.
