Electronic system for monitoring plagiarism
Every time I share my experience with some friends who are going to England, I always remind them not to copy and cheat. The Royal holloway College, where I once attended, has an "electronic scanning" system specially designed to prevent academic plagiarism. The system collects a large number of books, academic works, articles, abstracts and papers of professors and students every year. Before students submit formal papers, the tutor will send the papers in WORD format to the electronic center of the school library by email, and then scan them word by word through the software to check whether the students have plagiarized.
Once, an international student from China took a language course in England for two years, and was finally admitted to the political department of a famous university in central England to study for a master's degree. After a year's hard work, he is about to graduate, but in the end he found that his thesis copied other people's academic works in many places. At that time, he had only two options, one was to be expelled from the school, and the other was to appeal, but the author and the school reserved the right to pursue it. Once he wins the case, the original author will get some compensation. Finally, the student chose to be expelled from school. I studied hard at the cold window for three years and failed.
Two teachers invigilate the 100-person examination room
At the same time, if other people's opinions or original words are quoted in the paper or exam, then students must add a bibliography, such as the beginning of the text. The contents include author's name, article source, bibliography, publishing house, chapters, etc. Therefore, making a bibliography (the bibliography at the end of the article) is a huge project, which occupies a considerable part of time and thought in the creation of the paper. The tutor also learned about the students' reading ability, scope and understanding of the same type of academic works.
British schools believe that every student is sincere when dealing with academics and knowledge, so there won't be too many invigilators during the exam. A big exam for 200 people, and maybe even two teachers will monitor the exam in tandem. At the same time, the examination form of composition question and answer also determines that candidates have no motivation to cheat from another aspect. There is no unified answer to this kind of exam, and everyone has different opinions, which also makes British students accustomed to independent thinking since childhood and determines the fairness of the exam.
Opportunism may be harmful to life.
No matter in any field, we should keep an honest attitude towards knowledge, avoid opportunism, respect knowledge, do not cheat in exams, and do not copy other people's papers or academic works after class.
According to the regulations of British universities, once students are found to have cheated in exams or plagiarized homework, they will be expelled from school immediately, and whether to sue in court will be decided according to the seriousness of the case. The original author can reserve the right to sue the plagiarist, and the consequences will be very serious and even life-long.
