Indian culture has two basic characteristics, namely its diversity and religion. Indian culture is essentially a religious culture. At present, more than 99% of Indians are religious believers, and there are very few atheists. In the complicated Indian culture, Hindu culture has always been dominant, which runs through the history of Indian civilization. Hindus believe in the immortality of the human soul and animism, and advocate retribution for the reincarnation of life. From the teaching point of view, life is not the end of life, but an endless series of life, a part of every life, and a limitation of the previous life period and decision. A person's good behavior makes him ascend to heaven, and his evil behavior makes him fall. Therefore, individuals must accumulate merits through practice and understanding of the Vatican in order to return to the Vatican and unite with it. "Every contract" is the core of Hindu philosophy and the highest life goal pursued by Hinduism. Because of the pursuit of this belief, there is a tendency to emphasize the spirit over the material on the fundamental issues of Hindu philosophy, which also determines the most basic values of most Indians. On the other hand, under the impetus of this religious culture, the formation of Indian national character is characterized by enthusiasm, eloquence, good at logic, full of fantasy and jet lag, and weak practical ability. At the same time, the formation of religious and cultural values also dominates people's spiritual life and behavior.

The conflict between western culture and Indian culture is everywhere. American KFC and McDonald's fast food restaurants have been operating in India for many years, racking their brains, but little progress has been made. In 2000, KFC announced its withdrawal from the Indian market, and McDonald's only opened more than 20 in India, because the fast food culture in West India conflicts with the culture of not eating beef and vegetarian food. Therefore, an American businessman who has been in India for many years said, "If you don't understand Indian culture, don't invest in India."

In fact, the spirit of despising material things and advocating national character still has a great influence on Indian society today. Many big shots and intellectuals, despite their high social status, still despise material things and put pursuit in the highest spiritual position. This is especially true for many ordinary people. From the perspective of economic development, on the one hand, this national character contributes to social stability and harmony, and will not have the desire to compete for resources desperately because of excessive material expansion; On the other hand, it will curb consumption, lead to a sluggish market and make it difficult to stimulate rapid economic growth.
