With the development of communication science, there is a certain tension between journalism and communication science and corresponding journalism education and communication education, resulting in different or even opposing views: either advocating that journalism absorbs communication science to improve itself, or advocating that communication science replaces journalism, or criticizing that communication science dominates journalism education. An important reason for this difference lies in the lack of in-depth understanding of the similarities and differences in news communication. On the basis of reviewing the evolution track of relevant discourses, this paper deeply analyzes the heterogeneity and correlation of journalism and communication (mainly mass communication) from the aspects of research objects or fields, research levels or academic levels, academic positions or academic orientations, and research methods. Because the heterogeneity and correlation of news and communication are intertwined, we should examine the relationship between news and communication more rationally, promote the interaction and absorption between them, and make them promote each other and complement each other, so that news and communication can achieve greater development, and there is no need to create a meaningless argument of "life and death".
