At present (202 1), the center of Ningbo is located in Yinzhou District, the resident of the municipal government, in the south wing of the Yangtze River Delta, in the east of Zhejiang Province, along the central coast of Ningbo City, and near Haishu District in the west.

It borders Jiangbei District and zhenhai district in the north, Beilun District in the northeast, Fenghua District in the south, and Xiangshan County across Xiangshan Port in the southeast. The land area of the whole region is 799.09 square kilometers.

Historical evolution:

Yinzhou, originally Yinxian, has a long history of thousands of years. As early as the Neolithic matriarchal clan commune, there were primitive people living in the territory. About the end of primitive society, at the latest in early summer, "Yin" has become a definite place name.

In 222 BC, Qin destroyed Chu and established Yin, Zhi and San Counties. In the third year of Sui Dynasty, all counties were unified and collectively called Zhang Ju County. In the Tang dynasty, it was changed to magistrate of a county. At the beginning of the Five Dynasties, it was changed to Yinxian.

Until February 2002, the State Council approved the revocation of Yinxian County and established it as Yinzhou District, Ningbo City, with "district-level system and county-level authority".

Nine towns (streets) west of Fenghua River were placed under the jurisdiction of Haishu District, and the area east of Fenghua River merged with the former jiangdong district to form a new Yinzhou District.
