What does Faust mean? What does he pursue?
The following is just my humble opinion.

Faust was created by Goethe during the Renaissance in Europe. It tells the story of a man who is always pursuing. Faust, an old scholar, felt that life was not good, signed an exchange agreement with the devil, exchanged his soul for a new life, and began the road of pursuing truth. It is an epic of the times, with the magical experience of an advanced bourgeois intellectual, trying to explore the meaning of life and the ideal life path of society, inspiring people to pursue the truth forever and establish lofty social ideals.

He pursued the truth all his life (from pursuing knowledge to love, to political status, to harmony, to career).

After studying and living (a postdoctoral fellow who is tired of book knowledge),

Love life (after pursuing and getting love, selfishness and fragility bring pain to the lover, and he experiences sadness and melancholy),

Political life (compromise with feudal rulers in order to make a difference, leading to a tragic ending),

Pursuing classical beauty (pursuing Greek harmony, but eventually my son died and my wife left)

and

Five stages of making contributions (Faust reclaimed land from the sea to benefit others, let heaven defeat the devil with a torch of love, and God saved Faust),

Pursuing the truth in the balance between reason and sensibility. Every time he failed, every time he got lost, he got closer to the truth, because he never gave up his pursuit.
