What kind of person is Zhan Tianyou?
Zhan Tianyou (1861-1919) is an expert in modern railway engineering in China. He was also the earliest engineer in China. Originally from Wuyuan County, Anhui Province (now Jiangxi Province), and originally from Nanhai County, Guangdong Province (1872). With the first batch of young children from China studying in the United States. 1878 (Guangxu four years) graduated from high school with honors and was admitted to the Civil Engineering Department of Yale University to study railway engineering. 188 1 year, they graduated from Yale university with excellent results, wrote a graduation thesis entitled "Research on Wharf Crane", obtained a bachelor's degree and returned to China in the same year. After returning home, Zhan Tianyou joined Mawei Shipping Administration. After finishing his studies, he was sent to Wu Yang, the flagship of Fujian Navy, as a gunner and participated in the Mawei naval battle. After the war, he was transferred to the Huangpu Naval Academy to teach. However, at that time, China was forced to learn to sail ships because of the strong opposition of feudal die-hards, which delayed him for 78 years. 1938+0887, "China Railway Company" was established in Tianjin. The next year, he studied in America. Became the first railway engineer in China. He began to build the railway from Tanggu to Tianjin, and completed the track-laying project in only 80 days. Later, he participated in the construction of the Tianjin-Shanhaiguan railway, and needed to build an iron bridge on the Luanhe River. Faced with the successive failures of British, Japanese and German engineers to build this iron bridge, he resolutely stepped forward and undertook the task of building the bridge, and finally completed all the projects brilliantly. The greatest contribution is that he successfully built the Beijing-Zhangjia Railway18.100000106. As the chief engineer of the Beijing-Zhangjia Railway, this road is more than 200 kilometers long and the project is unprecedented. He personally surveyed and selected the route. In the east ditch of Qinglong Bridge in Beijing, herringbone track is adopted, and two high-power locomotives turn around and push each other to solve the problem of insufficient traction of large slope locomotives. Various measures have been taken with the workers. Solve the difficulties such as water seepage and collapse in tunnel engineering. Jing-Zhang Railway 1909 was completed two years ahead of schedule, and the total cost was only one fifth of the price charged by foreign contractors. After the completion ceremony of Jing-Zhang Railway, he was employed as the Sichuan-Han and Guangdong-Han Railway Association or the Prime Minister and Chief Engineer. After the Revolution of 1911, he overcame various difficulties and was appointed as the office director, chief engineer and supervisor of the John Sichuan Railway Association. The 365-kilometer-long railway from Wuchang to Changsha was completed. In his later years, he edited and published engineering books such as Summary of Beijing-Zhangjiakou Railway Engineering and Standard Map of Beijing-Zhangjiakou Railway, as well as Huaying Engineering Vocabulary, the earliest civil engineering dictionary in China. He died in 2009. China Institution of Engineers built a bronze statue of its first president, Zhan Tianyou, at Qinglongqiao Station to commemorate this outstanding person forever.
