Artists and designers sometimes cause some controversy. Some people think that painting and design belong to art, as long as they know martial arts, it is not a problem to engage in design; Another view is that it is not enough to engage in design only on the basis of painting. Therefore, it is necessary to seriously consider the mission of painting and design, and clarify the various relationships between them, which is a constructive way for art design education and practice.
First, the characteristics, mission and distinction between painting and design
Although painting and design are creative activities, they all have their own characteristics and missions.
Specifically, painting is ornamental, reflecting the catharsis of thoughts, spirits and emotions and aesthetic expression. Therefore, painting is immaterial, utilitarian and unpractical.
