1. Relief decoration
The decorative application of reliefs is the most widely used method in the design of Yunnan Yi furniture. A large number of Yunnan Yi local patterns have been partially extracted, and after secondary creation, their patterns are presented in furniture by means of reliefs. Relief is also a three-dimensional presentation of painting and design, and a form of sculpture.
This method can truly present the specific things such as fern, Ma Yinghua, birds and animals in Yunnan Yi furniture, and reconstruct the local three-dimensional art space by giving two-dimensional and plane patterns with production techniques and emotions. At the same time, using the difference of compressed space, low relief and high relief forms are produced, which are often used in the decorative areas of chair backs, stool leg surfaces, upper and front surfaces of shelves and the panel areas of wardrobes in Yunnan Yi furniture.
2. Through carving decoration
Through-carving technology is mostly used for headboards, vertical screens and cabinets of Yi furniture in Yunnan. The patterns of through carving are mostly bird and beast patterns, and the technical difficulty of through carving is greater than that of relief. Above the relief, part of the background is hollowed out, and a little carelessness will ruin the pattern. However, the production and effect of Through Carving are more artistic and modern, and the overall feeling is rational order, revealing the beauty of truth and falsehood. Yi people in Yunnan have worshipped totems and birds and beasts since ancient times. The embossed bird and beast patterns (tiger pattern and crane pattern) are supplemented by flower patterns, which are more sacred and have strong visual impact. Therefore, this relief method is widely used in the baffle and roof of Yi people's bedside, baffle and drawer of sacrificial furniture, right in front of vertical screen and other areas, and also shows delicacy and exquisiteness.
3. Paint coating process
Lacquerware technology of Yi people in Yunnan began to prevail as early as the Song Dynasty, and a large number of traditional patterns of Yi people were carved with lacquerware and attached to furniture. At the same time, painting can also beautify the furniture environment and decorative effect. Painting craft furniture will produce different luster and visual effects in different environments. The patterns and patterns in the furniture can adopt various manufacturing processes, such as filling (painting, embedding gold and silver), stacking (painting gray pile texture or carving), scraping (drawing lines in the pattern, filling gold and silver or color).
