Modernization of the Library of South China University of Technology
With the great attention and strong support of school leaders, the library seized the opportunity, explored pragmatically, and took the "2 1 1 project" and the construction of high-level universities as an opportunity to vigorously build the library literature information network system. The system consists of the imported advanced and mature automation management system of Horizon Library, online information publishing and service and CD-ROM network system, and has been connected with the campus network, China Education and Research Computer Network (CERNET) and the Internet through optical fiber. The automatic management system of Horizon Library basically covers the daily business management of the library, including public inquiry, interview, cataloging, circulation, periodicals, online inquiry and other modules. Its online query module (iPAC) enables readers to quickly and accurately retrieve bibliographic information and readers' borrowing information from the Internet.

1998, the "Shuhua Electronic Information Center"-the electronic reading room donated by Fang Runhua, a famous Hongkong person, was built. This room has 97 computer seats, and its advanced CD-ROM network system can support multiple users to access the campus network at the same time. It can provide readers with the retrieval of important CDs and network databases at home and abroad and the international online retrieval of Dialog. Readers can browse and obtain a large number of rich information resources on campus network, CERNET and INTERNET, and make use of various VCD and multimedia teaching courseware.

The library attaches great importance to the development and utilization of collection resources, and has established a database of Chinese and foreign books and periodicals, a database of doctoral and master's dissertations in our school, a navigation database of key disciplines' network resources, and a database of architectural art and technology. We have jointly established a joint catalogue of Chinese and foreign periodicals collected by six universities, a joint catalogue of CD-ROMs and online databases collected by six universities, free electronic full-text databases of six university libraries and newspaper collections of six university libraries. These databases can be accessed and queried through the library homepage.
