Development and Application of Decorative Painting
The Origin and Development of Decorative Painting

With the inheritance of history, the change of region and the inspiration of the times, human culture has been passed down from generation to generation and developed continuously. Decorative painting, an art form, has been produced, developed and spread to this day on the basis of original paintings and decorative patterns. From painted pottery patterns in Neolithic Age to bronze decorative paintings in Shang and Zhou Dynasties, from stone reliefs and brick reliefs in Han Dynasty to world-famous Dunhuang murals and some unique folk arts, they all provide us with the most typical examples of decorative paintings.

Decorative painting, as an art form and a unique artistic expression method, has been thriving in the soil of national folk art, and has been constantly updated with the development of the times, reflecting a unique artistic style.

The difference between decorative painting and pure painting can be divided from function. Whatever is used to decorate an object or a building, regardless of its topic selection, composition, color and modeling, and whatever means it uses, should belong to the category of decorative painting as long as it is based on the requirements of the decorated object and is unified with the decorations. From the artistic characteristics, its artistic expression is more stylized, emphasizing rhythm and rhythm. In addition, decorative painting is technical because of its subordinate function, and the decorative parts and areas have requirements, restrictions and norms on the content and form of painting, thus stipulating the rules of modeling, layout and change for decorative painting, and further promoting the emergence of decorative style. From this perspective, restrictions are not necessarily a bad thing. Goethe said that we can only show our skills in a limited way, and only the law can give us freedom. It is this restriction that promotes the continuous development of decorative style on the basis of its characteristics, takes root in people's thinking and gradually forms the unique aesthetic concept of our nation.

Decorative painting is an art form that reflects the author's consciousness and aesthetic concept with highly generalized aesthetic language. People can explore freely in a broad concrete and abstract field of vision, boldly apply the law of formal beauty, process natural images through exaggeration and deformation, and beautify society and people's lives.

At present, the deepening of cultural exchanges between China and the West has promoted the development of modern art in China, especially decorative art. With the renewal of people's artistic appreciation concept, artists pay more and more attention to the modern pursuit of plastic language. Decorative painting is just a bridge between painting and craft decoration, which can not only extend painting to the interest of craft decoration, but also inject the vividness of craft decoration into painting.
