Ma, a professor in the Department of Mathematics of Tianjin University, enjoys the expert allowance of the State Council 1992. He used to be the executive director of the National Society of Probability and Statistics, the deputy director and secretary-general of the Professional Committee of Applied Probability and Statistics in engineering colleges, the deputy editor-in-chief of the magazine Mathematical Statistics and Applied Probability, the member of the editorial board of engineering applied mathematics textbooks in colleges and universities of the Ministry of Education, and the member of the scientific teaching steering committee of colleges and universities of the State Education Commission. He presided over many research projects of the National Natural Science Foundation and the State Education Commission, and presided over the formulation of the national standard: outlier test of type I extreme value distribution. He has published more than 30 academic papers in academic journals at home and abroad.
