Suzhou Institute of Science and Technology was formed by the merger of Suzhou Institute of Urban Construction and Environmental Protection and Suzhou Railway Teachers College in September, 20001. It is a multi-disciplinary university with industry as the mainstay and coordinated development of engineering, science, literature and management. The school focuses on undergraduate education and training applied talents, and has both postgraduate education and continuing education. Based in Suzhou, serving Jiangsu and facing the whole country, the school will be built into a multidisciplinary university with an important position and role in Jiangsu and a certain influence in the whole country.

The school is located in Suzhou High-tech Zone in the west of the ancient city of Suzhou, and has four campuses: headquarter, Shihu, Tian Ping and Pingmen. The campus covers an area of 1.500 mu, with a total construction area of over 470,000 square meters. At present, there are 22 teaching departments (departments and centers) such as architecture department, and more than 20 scientific research institutes (institutes) and scientific and technological service institutions such as environmental protection application technology research institute. The school has 38 undergraduate majors (according to the new caliber), covering six major disciplines (according to the statistics of seven major disciplines), including engineering, science, humanities, business, social sciences and agronomy, with more than 20,000 students in various disciplines, including nearly 1.5 million full-time undergraduates. By the end of the Tenth Five-Year Plan or a little longer, Suzhou University of Science and Technology will build Suzhou International Education Park (North Zone) into a modern new campus with complete facilities and advanced functions.
