Suzhou Institute of Science and Technology was formed by the merger of Suzhou Institute of Urban Construction and Environmental Protection and Suzhou Railway Teachers College in September, 20001. It is a multi-disciplinary university with industry as the mainstay and coordinated development of engineering, science, literature and management. The school focuses on undergraduate education and training applied talents, and has both postgraduate education and continuing education. Based in Suzhou, serving Jiangsu and facing the whole country, the school will be built into a multidisciplinary university with an important position and role in Jiangsu and a certain influence in the whole country.
The school is located in Suzhou High-tech Zone in the west of the ancient city of Suzhou, and has four campuses: headquarter, Shihu, Tian Ping and Pingmen. The campus covers an area of 1.500 mu, with a total construction area of over 470,000 square meters. At present, there are 22 teaching departments (departments and centers) such as architecture department, and more than 20 scientific research institutes (institutes) and scientific and technological service institutions such as environmental protection application technology research institute. The school has 38 undergraduate majors (according to the new caliber), covering six major disciplines (according to the statistics of seven major disciplines), including engineering, science, humanities, business, social sciences and agronomy, with more than 20,000 students in various disciplines, including nearly 1.5 million full-time undergraduates. The school has four master's degree authorization points in urban planning, environmental engineering, structural engineering and world history, two provincial key construction disciplines in environmental engineering and structural engineering, and a provincial (ministerial) key laboratory-the Key Laboratory of Environmental Science and Engineering.

In order to promote teaching, scientific research and cooperation, the school invited academicians of the two academies and famous experts and scholars at home and abroad to give lectures, and sent nearly 50 teachers abroad for further study, exchange and cooperation.
The school has a professional basic teaching experimental center with a building area of 1 10,000 square meters, 20 professional laboratories and central laboratories, 3,056 microcomputers for teaching and research, 56 multimedia classrooms and 6,808 seats. 6 audio-visual classrooms with 490 seats; There are 2/kloc-0 modern language laboratories with 968 seats. On the basis of the existing Shihu campus, the school will acquire land 1.559 mu in Suzhou International Education Park (North Zone) to form a new campus with an area of 1.855 mu, making the campus area reach 3 1.02 mu; The new total investment is about 1 100 million yuan. By the end of the Tenth Five-Year Plan or a little longer, Suzhou University of Science and Technology will build Suzhou International Education Park (North Zone) into a modern new campus with complete facilities and advanced functions. By then, the new campus will become the main campus of the school, focusing on most undergraduate and postgraduate education; At present, the Tian Ping campus will be gradually adjusted to the school base of private secondary colleges; At present, the school-based headquarters has mainly become the base for adult education, continuing education and training, transformation of scientific and technological achievements and student training.
The school insists on taking teaching as the center and effectively improves the quality of education. On the one hand, strengthen management and supervision, on the other hand, do a good job in teaching reform. In recent years, the school has won 22 provincial (ministerial) and above excellent teaching achievement awards (including provincial excellent courseware awards), including national excellent teaching achievement 1 item. In recent years, the school has made great efforts to reform the school management system. By implementing the dynamic responsibility system of school subsidies, establishing a series of scientific research management and reward methods, and strengthening the mechanism of talent training and introduction, the enthusiasm of teachers and researchers has been greatly mobilized, and various scientific research indicators of the school have doubled. According to statistics, since 1998, the school has obtained 498 scientific research projects above the municipal (ministerial) level, including 26 national projects (see attached table) and 94 provincial (ministerial) projects. In 2002, the school signed a mutual cooperation agreement with the Environmental Research Institute of Suker, Finland and the University of Modem, Norway, focusing on the training of young teachers, teachers' visits to schools and students' mutual training. In 2002, the school also received students from Singapore, Japan and South Korea to practice or learn Chinese, and hosted an international environmental protection technology training course organized by the State Environmental Protection Administration, with students from 9 countries or regions.
