Alloy cast steel can be divided into cast alloy structural steel and special purpose alloy cast steel according to their uses. The former is medium-low alloy cast steel, which is mainly used to manufacture general mechanical structural parts. The latter are mostly high-alloy cast steel, such as wear-resistant cast steel, stainless acid-resistant cast steel, heat-resistant cast steel and cast alloy tool steel.
Manganese and elements that refine the crystal structure, such as vanadium, titanium and zirconium, can reduce the hot cracking tendency, while chromium and molybdenum increase the hot cracking tendency. Alloying elements reduce the thermal conductivity, increase the casting stress and increase the cold cracking tendency of steel castings, especially those containing elements such as manganese, chromium and molybdenum.

1. Cast carbon steel. Cast steel with carbon as the main alloying element and a small amount of other elements. Cast carbon steel can be divided into low carbon steel, medium carbon steel and high carbon steel. The carbon content of cast low carbon steel is less than 0.25%, that of cast medium carbon steel is between 0.25% and 0.60%, and that of cast high carbon steel is between 0.6% and 3.0%. The strength and hardness of cast carbon steel increase with the increase of carbon content.
Cast carbon steel can be used to make parts that bear heavy loads, such as the frame of rolling mill in heavy machinery and the base of hydraulic press. It can also be used to manufacture parts that bear great stress and impact, such as wheels, couplers, bolster and side frames of railway vehicles.
2. Cast alloy steel. Cast alloy steel can be divided into cast low alloy steel (the total amount of alloying elements is less than or equal to 5%), cast medium alloy steel (the total amount of alloying elements is between 5%- 10%) and cast high alloy steel (the total amount of alloying elements is greater than or equal to 10%).
