The strait is inland, lakes, ports, etc. Such waters are conducive to the safe navigation of ships. China is one of the earliest countries to use water in the world. In the 1980' s, the inland river transportation mileage in China exceeded100,000 kilometers. With the development of transportation, water transportation requires water depth, width and bending radius corresponding to the designed navigable channel of ships. With the development of ship types, waterway regulation projects are in full swing.

Firstly, this paper analyzes the development status of inland waterway transportation in China and describes the development level of inland waterway transportation. Based on the development of coastal waterway, this paper analyzes the change and development of ship types, and focuses on the management and development of deep-water waterway in the Yangtze River estuary. And put forward some superficial views on the future development direction.
