Bing Xin: Me and Rose
My contact with roses began in my youth.
I remember when I was a child, in my father's garden in Yantai, I only saw wintersweet, begonia and chrysanthemum in Jiangxi. I saw all the lotus flowers and orchids in my grandfather's garden in Fuzhou. Orchids have a fragrance, but they are very delicate. Use bamboo scissors when cutting flowers. I am afraid of ants, too. The four legs of the flowerpot stand should be padded with four cups to prevent ants from climbing up. The fertilizer used is stinky water soaked in black beans.
Almost at the same time, I began to read A Dream of Red Mansions, and saw one sentence, which was very vivid when Xing Er described You Sanjie's tanchun. He said: "The mixed name of the three girls is' rosa multiflora', which is red and fragrant. Everyone loves it, but it only stings ..." I yearned for this rich and powerful flower, but I didn't appreciate her color and fragrance at that time.
I didn't enter the university until the autumn of 19 18. At that time, the campus of Union Women's University was located at Tongfu Road (later changed to Fu Jia Road) in dengshikou. This is the residence of Tong Wang in Qing Dynasty, and the auditorium of Women's University was converted from three halls of this palace. The steps in front of the hall are very high and the corridor is very long. There are a row of bright red roses on both sides of the steps in front of the corridor. This rose is really "red and fragrant, everyone loves it", and the flower is as big as a plate! Our classmates like to pick a bud and put it in a bun. Of course, we are also very careful about the spikes on the branches when climbing and picking.
I remember I wrote a poem called In the Shadow of a Rose. Because that row of roses is really tall and big with dense branches and leaves, we always like to sit on the grass under the flowers and read in the fragrance.
When you go abroad, you can see many kinds of roses everywhere in the United States or Europe, and the sound price of roses can also be compared with our plum, orchid, bamboo and chrysanthemum! There are many rose gardens everywhere. In Ji Qin Mausoleum, I was pleasantly surprised to visit the colorful and fragrant rose garden next to the Mausoleum.
1929 years later, when I had my own home, I planted two rows of German white roses in front of the porch. The flowers are also very big, and they bloom all the time, from March 3 to September 9 of the lunar calendar, so that my vase is full of flowers. I not only enjoy it myself, but also give it to my friends or students who are recovering from illness in the school hospital.
After War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, I left Beijing. Since then, I have moved from east to west, without a certain address, and I have no intention of planting flowers. 194 1- 1945, I bought an earthen house under Gele Mountain in Chongqing, but there was no fence and there were some open spaces around it. But vegetables were tight at that time, so I only planted some melons and vegetables on the hillside. I remember one summer, we only ate pumpkins for three months!
After liberation, I returned to China and had my own dormitory, but the unit we lived in was upstairs and there was no land, so my luck came from this! In our downstairs, there are two young people, both amateur rose lovers. Their flower beds are full of all kinds of roses. These young people, knowing that I like them too, send me handfuls of bright roses with morning dew when they tidy up the flower beds in the morning-they almost send flowers to me in turn, and when I am in the hospital, it is no exception, from the first flower in spring to the last flower in autumn-every morning, when I am still grooming, as long as I hear a gentle knock on the door, my joy will surge out like spring.
