Same-sex love between Jia Baoyu and Jiang Yuhan
-Also on the ending significance of A Dream of Red Mansions
Jia Baoyu in a dream of red mansions has a famous saying: "Daughters are made of water and men are made of mud." However, there are four men in A Dream of Red Mansions: Jing Di, Qin Zhong, Liu Xianglian and Jiang Yuhan. Baoyu doesn't think so. These four male characters have a direct or indirect influence on Baoyu's fate. The four men are handsome in appearance, but refined in sex. The relationship between Jiang Yuhan and Jia Baoyu is the most subtle and complicated, and their homosexual feelings may affect the interpretation of the ending of A Dream of Red Mansions.
The fifth time in A Dream of Red Mansions, Jia Baoyu's fugue is too empty. See a poem in Twelve Women in Jinling and its Supplement, which reads:
White, gentle and smooth, like a laurel.
The actresses are blessed, but the sons have no chance.
This poem alludes to the fate of Hua Shiren's life, in which "You Ling" refers to Jiang Yuhan. Visible, in the first 120 back, Jiang Yuhan finally married Baoyu on behalf of Hua Xiren, and was blessed by the secular. The author has arranged the foreshadowing, and in the development of the whole book, the author has always been concerned about this important clue. The 28th time, "Love from Money", a banquet, Jia Baoyu met for the first time and ordered wine on the table. Jiang Yuhan sang with a stick: "Flowers smell like fragrance, and it is warm during the day." At that time, Jiang Yuhan didn't know there was an attacker, but he accidentally learned the name of the attacker, and their fate ended. After a while, Baoyu came, and so did Jiang Yuhan. They admired each other and gave each other sweat towels as a token of their affection. Baoyu gave Jiang Yuhan the Songhua Sweat Towel, which originally belonged to Aron, while Jiang Yuhan gave him the scarlet Sweat Towel as Blood, but it was quietly tied to Aron at night. Jiang Yuhan's scarlet sweat towel is a tribute from a thousand fragrant female kings, and it was sent by King Jing. It is very valuable. Baoyu's move is symbolically equivalent to accepting Xiren's dowry and entrusting Xiren to Jiang Yuhan for life. At the end of chapter 120, Huaxi Ren got married with sadness. The next day, when he opened the box, his son-in-law saw the scarlet towel, but he knew it was Baoyu's girl who attacked people. When xiren saw her son-in-law's pine flower sweat towel, she knew it was Baoyu's best friend Jiang Yuhan. The red and green sweat towels matched each other, which was a good marriage. It was Baoyu himself who contributed to this marriage.
In the novel A Dream of Red Mansions, xiren is very important to Baoyu, but Baoyu entrusted such an important person around him to Jiang Yuhan. There are many characters in A Dream of Red Mansions. Why the author entrusted this great event to Jiang Yuhan is really worth exploring. Jiang Yuhan was originally an actress raised by Wang Jia of Zhongshun in Prince Mi of Zhongshun, and her social status was not high, so she didn't appear many times in the novel. However, the author named such an obscure figure "Yu", which is puzzling. The author of A Dream of Red Mansions never named this character "Jade" easily. Xiaohong changed her real name because she violated Baoyu's name, which is an example. Jade is the most important symbol in A Dream of Red Mansions, and critics have written a book to discuss it. In many complicated interpretations, jade at least symbolizes humanity, wisdom and essence, which is beyond doubt. The characters in the novel, whose names contain jade characters, have a special fate with the stubborn stone Baoyu of Nu Wa, which has profound implications. There are four other jades besides Baoyu in A Dream of Red Mansions. First of all, Bao and the three have a "fairy fate", which is the love myth between the waiter and the crimson pearl fairy grass and the most beautiful story of returning tears. The love between Baoyu and Daiyu is the love of soul and pure beauty, so they often feel that they know each other as the same kind. Daiyu is the projection of Baoyu's spirit, so it seems that they can't get married and have physical relations. Only when the crimson pearl grass is exhausted, the waiter will turn back to the dreamland and continue the fairy tale with the crimson pearl grass. The second piece of jade is Miaoyu. Some people speculate that the relationship between Baoyu and Miaoyu has metaphysical meaning in the theme and literary structure of A Dream of Red Mansions. Miao Yu calls herself an "outsider", which means that she has been transcendent and detached from the outside world. Baoyu, on the other hand, is a "trapped wife" who is still addicted to the world. But the result is just the opposite. Baoyu finally stepped out of the threshold and made a positive result, but Miaoyu got stuck in the mud and was finally robbed. The relationship between Baoyu and Miaoyu is the intermodulation of identity, and the transformation between outside and inside the threshold is an ironic "Buddha's fate". Miaoyu is proud and lonely, and even Liu Can, the grandmother in the village, can't tolerate this, so it is difficult to enter Buddhism. Baoyu is compassionate and loves all beings, so he can finally become a Buddha.
In A Dream of Red Mansions, there are Zhen Baoyu and Jiang Yuhan whose names contain jade. Zhen Baoyu is just an allegorical figure, and he is a "true" and "false" character in A Dream of Red Mansions. Zhen Baoyu looks like Jia Baoyu, but he is keen on fame, which is just the opposite of Jia Baoyu's natural essence. The author created the role of Zhen Baoyu with irony. In the character design of the author of A Dream of Red Mansions, secondary characters are often used to set off and contrast the main characters, such as Qingwen and Lingguan, which are the extension and projection of Daiyu. Besides Zhen Baoyu and Miaoyu, there is a male character named Jiang Yuhan, which is more meaningful to Baoyu. If Baoyu and Daiyu have "immortal destiny" and Miaoyu has "Buddha destiny", then Baoyu and Jiang Yuhan have "shared destiny". Among the many male characters in A Dream of Red Mansions, Baoyu and Jiang Yuhan have the deepest common bond-the common bond between Baoyu and Jia Zheng is limited to father and son, but not intimate. The same-sex love between Baoyu and Jiang Yuhan is followed by the secular marriage between Jiang Yuhan and Hua Xiren at the end of A Dream of Red Mansions, and there is a very complicated relationship between them.
In the 28th episode of Jiang Yuhan's Affection for Money, Baoyu and I met for the first time, that is, they appreciated each other and exchanged notes. Back to chapter 33 of "Great Achievements", Chunshun sent a long historian to Jia Fu to ask Jia Zheng for help, because the heroine (Jiang Yuhan) in Chunshun was missing. "In this city, eight people stopped ten times said that he was closely related to his son who recently held jade." The chief historian pointed out the evidence-the money tied to Baoyu's waist. Baoyu couldn't hide it, so he had to admit that Jiang Yuhan had fled from Prince Zhong Shun and bought a house in rosewood fort, 20 miles away from the city. Baoyu and Jiang Yuhan exchanged personal belongings 28 times after they met. Until 33 times ago, there was no explanation in their "thick picture" storybook. After Baoyu confessed 33 times, it was obvious that they were already very close in the past. Jiang Yuhan seems to have fled Zhongshun Wang Fu for Baoyu and bought a house in Rosewood Castle. With the careful thinking of the author of A Dream of Red Mansions, there should be no such major omissions in the plot. I don't know if it will be deleted by future generations. This question is still waiting for the experts of Redology to answer. However, thirty-three times have shown that Baoyu and Jiang Yuhan did have close same-sex love, and Baoyu was criticized by Jia Zheng so much that he was black and blue all over. On the one hand, Baoyu secretly met an actress, which is not allowed by Confucian ethics. On the other hand, it also symbolizes the "common destiny" between Baoyu and Jiang Yuhan, and the pain and disability that Baoyu had to bear after his secular life. In the book, Baoyu suffered the greatest mental pain for Daiyu, but the greatest physical trauma for Jiang Yuhan. As far as the characteristics of homosexuality are concerned, the love between the same sex is to find a "self" and a "same body" from another individual, which is different from the heterosexual search for a different "other" and a "different". For example, Narcissus in Greek mythology fell in love with his reflection in the water in order to seek a kind of love of the same body. The love between Jia Baoyu and Jiang Yuhan is based on profound understanding. Jiang Yuhan is not only the reflection of Baoyu in the water, Baoyu is another "self", a secular incarnation. Back to the ninety-third, Baoyu and Jiang Yuhan met again in Lin 'an Bofu. In Baoyu's eyes, Jiang Yuhan is "fresh and moist as a canal, blooming in the wind like a Yushu". These two sentences not only describe Jiang Yuhan's handsome appearance, but also have profound meanings. Some versions of "Jiang Yuhan" are also called "Jiang Yuhan", and Han Han and Fu Qu are all lotus aliases. Baoyu finally cut his hair and became a monk, and the Buddha ascended to heaven. Lotus Lotus symbolizes the incarnation of Buddha. Therefore, although Baoyu ascended to heaven as a Buddha, his secular doppelganger was attached to Yuhan, and finally he fulfilled his secular wish and married Xiren. There is a cloud in the Buddhist scriptures: "Self-nature has three bodies, one is dharma body, the other is achievement, and the third is hundreds of millions of incarnations." Jiang Yuhan should be one of the "hundreds of millions of incarnations" of Baoyu.
In the same story, Jiang Yuhan went to Lin 'an Bofu to sing in an opera. He was promoted to foreman and changed to a young singer. "He also saved a lot of money, and there are already two or three stores at home." Someone in the room said, "I must be married." Some said, "The kiss has not been decided yet. Instead, he made up his mind: it is a life-long marriage and a life-long life. This is not confusion. No matter how high or low, he is always worthy of his talent. So I'm not married. " Baoyu thought, "I wonder whose girl will marry him in the future?" If you want to marry such a person, you will be worthy. "Later, Jiang Yuhan sang his specialty" Zhanhuakui ",with 93 descriptions:
Sure enough, Jiang Yuhan played a small official in the Qin Dynasty. When he was drunk, he looked drunk and expressed his passion for love and affection. In the future, we will drink and sing, and we will be sad. Baoyu didn't look at Huakui at this moment, but only shot Qin Xiaoguan twice. Jiang Yuhan's voice became louder and clearer, and his voice fell on the chessboard, which made Baoyu's spaced out. I didn't know that Jiang Yuhan was very affectionate until after the play was over, which was comparable to his unusual role. ...
The author of A Dream of Red Mansions makes good use of the technique of "play in play" to point out the topic, while the experts of A Dream of Red Mansions usually go back to their hometown to visit relatives in the late Yuan Dynasty and the eighteenth spring. She ordered four plays:,,, and Away from the Soul, because Zhiben once commented on these four plays and thought that "Fu was the one who pointed out the play. These four plays come from a snow robbery-the downfall of the Fu family, the death of Fu Yuan in the Palace of Eternal Life, the dream of Handan-Fu Zhen Bao Yu sent jade (Mr. Yu's outline thinks it is more reasonable for Baoyu to become a monk), and the death of Fu Daiyu in the Peony Pavilion. These plays imply that the fate of the Jia family and its main characters is important, but I think Jiang Yuhan's "Zhan Huakui" in 1993 has a deeper significance to the theme and ending of A Dream of Red Mansions. The meaning here can be divided into two layers. First of all, among all the love stories in China, I'm afraid what is closest to Jia Baoyu's ideal is the state in which Qin Xiaoguan sympathizes with the flower-based woman in the novel "The Story of Awakening Marriage". Qin Zhong, an oil vendor with a poor background and a gentle temperament, admires the noble lady who was born as a famous prostitute, has no worries about food and clothing, and has saved twelve taels of silver. He went to the yard to find a beautiful woman (named after a prostitute) to kiss Fang Ze, only to be entertained by a banquet in the evening and fall asleep drunk. The novel describes Qin Xiaoguan's service to based women:
Drunk people are afraid of the cold and dare not wake her up. Suddenly, I saw a big red silk quilt on the railing. I gently took it off and covered it on Mei Niang, and picked up the lamp to light it. Take this pot of tea, take off your shoes and sleep. Next to Mei Niang, I held the teapot in my arms with my left hand and put my right hand on Mei Niang, afraid to close my eyes. ...
When based really vomited, he was afraid to dirty the bed, so he asked her to vomit in the sleeve of his new upper body. After drinking the bubble wine, he "still went to bed to hug as he started." Until dawn, Qin Xiaoguan was not frivolous. Ms. Zhang Shuxiang thinks that Qin Zhong's feelings based on love are close to religious love, and Qin Zhong is burdened with filth based on his own clothes. This action really contains the meaning of religious redemption, including the impurity of the other party, and then cleaning her-based on sex, she is a prostitute and will be polluted by the world. Jia Baoyu, in the seventy-seven chapters of "Beautiful Girl", is full of pity and infinite pity in the face of Qingwen who is dying, and he can't wait to replace him with his own body. Forty-four times, Pinger put on makeup. After Pinger was wrongly beaten by Xifeng, Baoyu was "overjoyed" for her. Baoyu used to be a waiter in Shen Ying in his last life. He guarded the crimson pearl fairy grass by the Linghe River and irrigated it carefully to prevent it from withering. After the robbery, he fell. In the Grand View Garden, Baoyu still poses as an escort. His highest ideal is to protect and cherish the flowers (daughters) in the Grand View Garden and prevent them from being destroyed by ruthless wind and rain. Baoyu is an affectionate seed, so it is no wonder that when Jiang Yuhan plays Qin Zhong and serves Huaji, he will feel "lost" and call Jiang Yuhan a "lover". "Qin Zhong" is homophonic with "love species", so Qin Zhong, the oil seller in Zhan Huakui, is also a symbol of "love species". The Qin Zhong played by Jia Baoyu and Jiang Yuhan is exactly the role that Baoyu wants to play. Jia Baoyu and Jiang Yuhan are two pieces of jade, which can be said to be the unity of God and appearance.
"Zhanhuakui" has a deeper meaning to the ending of A Dream of Red Mansions, because it also hides the fate of Jiang Yuhan and Xiren. It is no accident that the hitter's surname is Hua. In a sense, Hua Xiren's fate is similar to that of based women. Baoyu became a monk, the Jia family declined, xiren's concubine was unknown, and the future would not be good. Yuanyang, as the head of ladies-in-waiting, died badly, and the fate of the hitter was even more unpredictable. At the end of A Dream of Red Mansions, Jiang Yuhan also played the role of Qin Zhong. He saved Jia Fu from Hua Xiren and finished his marriage. This is also Baoyu's wish. He has long been hired by the 28th edition of Love Money. In fact, in the secular world, Baoyu is most concerned about attacking people rather than others. Generally, critics regard A Dream of Red Mansions as the love between Bao Dai and tend to focus on the triangular relationship between Bao Yu, Dai Yu and Bao Chai. In fact, the secular love between Baoyu, Jiang Yuhan and Hua Xiren may be more complete and human. As mentioned above, Baoyu and Daiyu's pre-alliance of wood and stone is a kind of "fairy fate", which is the love myth of Shen Ying waiter and crimson pearl fairy grass. Daiyu died young and tearfully, and they never got together physically. When Baochai married Baoyu, Baoyu lost his jade, lost his nature and became a fool. The only time in the book, Baoyu just held the heart of atonement and reluctantly acted. Apart from the relationship between husband and wife, they have no secular feelings-Baoyu soon discovered the world and became a monk. In fact, among the many women in A Dream of Red Mansions, only xiren really got Baoyu's vulgar style, because Baoyu had made his first sexual attempt with xiren as a virgin in the sixth cycle, and xiren can be said to be Baoyu's first woman in the world. Xiren served Baoyu and cared about his discipline in every way, more than Baoyu's mother, sister, servant girl and concubine-Xiren should play all the roles of women in the secular world.
