After inheritance and evolution, Huazhong Agricultural College was established in 1952 by all departments of Wuhan University Agricultural College, Hubei Agricultural College and some departments of six comprehensive universities such as Sun Yat-sen University, and was renamed as Huazhong Agricultural University in 1985. In 2000, it was placed under the direct leadership of the Ministry of Education from the Ministry of Agriculture.
