Compared with the human world in the past, our world is extremely complicated. Due to the extremely developed transportation, every part of the earth is closely related to various major events in human society. There is no isolated disaster, and there is no progress that will not bring all-round progress. This situation is reflected in people's minds. People's ideological content is also worldwide in scope and complexity. It is not enough for a person who works for the welfare of his own people and country to consider the situation of his own country just by contacting neighboring countries. The general trend of the world revolves around each of us, and we must devote ourselves to it and make contributions to it in order to influence our future. The noblest task of mankind today is to recognize the power of reaction and death, fight against them, and strengthen and realize the unprecedented possibilities provided by the world today, so that all people can live a happy life.
Heroes of any era are such people: with amazing loyalty, determination, courage and skills, they have completed the important tasks in front of everyone in that era. Today, these tasks are worldwide, so contemporary heroes-whether working at home or abroad-are also world heroes, not only in history, but also now.
Norman bethune is such a hero. He lived, worked and struggled in three countries-in Canada, his motherland; In Spain, people of insight from all over the world went to participate in the people's great struggle against the dark forces of Nazism and Fascism for the first time. In China, he once helped our guerrillas here, seized and established new bases of national freedom and democracy in areas that Japanese fascist soldiers thought had been conquered, helped us train a powerful people's army, and finally liberated all China. In a special sense, he belongs to the people of these three countries. In a broader sense, he belongs to all those who resist the oppression of the people by the state.
Norman bethune is a doctor. He fought in medical treatment with the most familiar weapons. He is an expert and pioneer in his own scientific field-he keeps his weapons as sharp as new. He consciously and consistently contributed his great skills to the pioneers of the anti-fascist and anti-imperialist struggle. For him, fascism is a disease that is more harmful to human beings than any other disease, a disease that destroys the body and mind of thousands of people in Qian Qian. It denies the value of human beings, that is, the value of all sciences that serve human health, vitality and growth.
The value of the technology that Professor Bethune gave to China students under Japanese artillery fire depends on the purpose they used. Germany and Japan are highly developed countries in science and technology, but because they are led by the nose by the enemies of human progress, their science and technology has only brought disaster to mankind. People's soldiers have the responsibility to master the highest professional technology, because only in their hands can technology truly serve mankind.
Dr Bethune was the first doctor to send the blood bank to the battlefield. His blood transfusion saved the lives of hundreds of soldiers in Spain and China. In China, he put forward and put into practice this slogan: "Doctor! Go to the wounded! Don't wait for them to come to you. " In an environment completely different from Spain and far behind Spain, he organized a guerrilla medical institution and saved thousands of our best and most brave soldiers. His plan and practice are based not only on medical science and experience, but also on military and political research and battlefield experience in the people's war. Bethune was a pioneer in Spanish and China medical field.
He fully understands the situation, strategy, tactics and terrain of this struggle, and at the same time, he knows what hope people can have for those freelance medical workers who fight side by side with other free people for their own families and future. Under his guidance, the doctors, nurses and nursing staff he trained not only regarded themselves as technical assistants, but also regarded themselves as frontline soldiers, shouldering the same important tasks as combat troops.
Bethune accomplished these tasks under extremely difficult circumstances, and it is impossible for a doctor to overcome these difficulties if he does not understand his tasks in many aspects. He completed these tasks in a mountain village in the most backward area of China. He knew almost nothing about the language of China and the people of China in advance. In his body eroded by lung disease, he had no other strength except fiery confidence and iron will.
What killed Dr. Bethune? Dr. Bethune died in the struggle against fascism and reactionary forces, and he devoted his enthusiasm, skills and strength to that struggle. The area where he worked was blocked not only by the Japanese invaders, but also by Chiang Kai-shek's reactionary government, which always preferred to compromise with the enemy and give up victory rather than launch a people's war. The man Bethune fought for was not only considered unfit to use weapons and ammunition, but even medical equipment to treat the wounded. They died of infectious diseases because they couldn't get modern anti-drug drugs.
Bethune died of septicemia, which was the result of not wearing rubber gloves and seeing a doctor without sulfanilamide.
The International Peace Hospital founded by Dr. Bethune is now working under the new situation that China is finally liberated. However, after Bethune's death, Dr. Ji Xi, who had worked with him in Spain, was appointed to replace him, but he failed to take office because of Chiang Kai-shek's blockade. Dr. Ke Dihua of the Indian medical team finally became the director of a hospital founded by Dr. Bethune, bravely continued to work, and later died in the line of duty-also because of the lack of drugs that could be used to treat him. Dr. Bethune and Dr. Ke Dihua are two of many victims. If there had been no blockade, these victims might still be alive, fighting for the cause of free people all over the world.
I am honored to introduce Dr. norman bethune's life to you and let more people know about this contemporary hero-he is such a lofty symbol of the common interests of all people in the struggle for freedom. His life, death and legacy are closely related to me personally, not only because of his great contribution to the national liberation war of our people, but also because of my personal work in the League for the Defence of China, which I chaired. The Alliance for the Defence of China is seeking assistance for Bethune Peace Hospital and bethune medical school to continue Bethune's cause.
New China will never forget Dr. Bethune. He is one of the people who helped us to be free. His career and reputation will live among us forever.
