Journal: Art Appraisal | 202 1 No.0065438 +0

Abstract: Painted pottery is a prehistoric art carrier in Neolithic Age, which appears in the form of abstraction, geometry and deformation, and is the epitome of prehistoric art landscape. In the embryonic stage of human civilization, art forms are mainly manifested in rock paintings and pottery. Although painted pottery is found all over the world, different living habits lead to different artistic forms. Compared with the decorative patterns of painted pottery in ancient Egypt and ancient Greece, painted pottery in China is more abstract and freehand, which has been extended to traditional painting in China and has become the essence of China painting.

This paper analyzes the decorative composition of painted pottery from the perspective of modern design theory. This paper attempts to analyze the arrangement law of valuable original symbols under the background of visual aesthetics. Modern design, especially visual communication design, should draw nutrition from painted pottery, primitive art and culture, humanistic value of primitive symbols, aesthetic value of decoration arrangement in form, and creative grasp of form by ancestors, all of which have the dual requirements of practicality and formal beauty.
