Two different ways of writing apply to different articles.
Generally speaking, articles, essays and novels with strong narrative are all written in bricks. Structured writing can be used in argumentative writing, expository writing, practical writing and workplace writing.
The simplest way to write in brick style is to use conjunctions to establish a framework of semantic connection. The following are the four most common conjunctions in writing and their specific usage.
First, conjunctions that indicate the progress of time.
What happened first, then what happened, and then said, so there is a natural connection between the contents of the article. In writing, when there is a sequence, consciously use words such as "next", "then", "soon" and "blink of an eye" to connect the contents together to make the article logical.
Special attention: it is best not to reuse the words indicating time connection, which will be very verbose.
Second, the conjunction indicating the development of the situation, the logic of the development of the situation mainly has two situations.
The first is to describe the relationship between two things. Commonly used words: At the same time, conjunctions such as "coincidence" and "unexpected" are used.
The second is to explain the corresponding relationship between cause and result. Common words: "why is that" and "not just because" and "that explains it"
Third, conjunctions that indicate a turning point in meaning, an article does not necessarily express a meaning, for example, sometimes there are exceptions, sometimes there will be a slight turning point, and sometimes there will be self-denial. The conjunctions indicating the turning point of meaning are "however", "but pay special attention", "there are exceptions", "maybe we are all wrong" and so on. The turning point of meaning sets the article framework of "sharp turn" or "sharp turn". With this framework, readers will compare the content before and after the turning point and have a deeper understanding of the article.
Fourth, the conjunctions that express induction and summary.
Reasoning through stories, telling conclusions through enumerations and telling emotions through stories are all common methods in writing. After the previous statement, add conjunctions such as "this story tells us", "through the above list", "in a word" and "summarize", and naturally transition to the summary part.
Inductive summary has two functions. The first is to summarize and review the previous views. The second promotion, after listing, refines the general conclusion or some higher emotions. Both forms can use the framework of induction and summary.
From the beginning, it has established the structural relationship between the parts, such as parallel structure, pyramid structure, onion skin structure and so on. Each structure has its own advantages. Moreover, the structure itself is a "miniature version" of the article. Stripping the "structure" in "structured writing" can also examine whether the framework of the article is tenable.
First, parallel structure
Is to show what needs to be presented in parallel. Its model is very simple, summarizing the main idea of each item in one sentence, and then explaining it to each main idea with specific content.
The advantage of parallel structure is that it is clear and everyone can understand it.
Example: (Personal Plan) In order to do a better job, make three plans. The first is the time management plan, the second is the study plan, and the third is the social breakthrough plan.
(Book Review) This book mentions five paths to becoming a genius, which correspond to five chapters in the book, namely: environment, deliberate practice, deep experience, high-dimensional method and tutor. Next, I will introduce these five parts in detail. ......
The coordinate structure is the simplest structure in writing, as long as the contents are arranged in the order of 1234.
However, it should be noted that sometimes the content is primary and secondary, or important and general, so the important content should be ranked first. Describe the most important and core content first, and then talk about the secondary and general content.
Second, the pyramid structure
As the name implies, the pyramid structure means that the article should be like a pyramid, from the whole (spire) to the branches (tower body) and then to the specific narrative (tower bottom).
The so-called totality generally refers to the conclusion of the article. Starting from the conclusion, the branches needed to realize the conclusion are deduced in reverse, and then the setting problem of each branch is solved.
The advantages of pyramid structure are clear reasoning and strong persuasion.
Pyramid structure is not only a simple enumeration tool, but also an analysis tool.
It deduces the decisive factors from the results, analyzes the real reasons behind things and finds out the solutions. This method, also known as MECE analysis, is widely used in business management consulting, innovative thinking, workplace writing and other fields.
Third, the onion skin structure
This structure is also often used in writing. Its advantage is that it is very attractive. The onion skin structure can be used not only in argumentative writing, but also in stories and novels.
The three structural frames commonly used in structured writing, combined with the four connecting frames of brick writing, make one * * * seven modes.
When writing in seven modes, you can think about which of the seven modes can be applied to the text you are going to write next. Do you want to tell a story? Is it necessary to start talking? Or do you want to analyze the reasons? Or push it layer by layer? Use one of the above seven frames to "build a shelf" for your article, and the thinking of writing will be much clearer.
