1. Comprehensive English

The name of this course is comprehensive English, which is a basic course for English majors in foreign languages department. This course not only cultivates students' listening, speaking, reading, writing and translation skills, but also pays attention to the cultivation of students' rhetoric, discourse structure and cross-cultural awareness, laying a solid foundation for them to learn various courses for English majors. This course is open to English majors of all grades. The textbook used is Advanced English published by FLTRP and edited by Zhang Hanxi (1, 2). 2. English reading

This course, called English Reading, is a professional basic course, aiming at cultivating students' English reading ability. The key point is to grasp the macro-textual structure of English, extract textual information such as themes, cultivate English fast reading ability, and cultivate students' ability to analyze problems with reading materials and make statements and exchanges in English. 4. English writing

This course is called English writing, which is a basic course for English majors. This course is a comprehensive practical course, which aims to impart the necessary basic theory of English writing and improve students' written expression ability. The specific teaching purpose is: to master the writing methods of common English styles by teaching the basic principles of writing, such as topic examination, conception, chapter, expression and language, as well as the basic expression skills of narration, description, discussion and explanation, and to be able to complete a graduation thesis of about 4,500-5,000 words in English. This course aims to cultivate students' ability to read British and American newspapers and magazines. By being familiar with the general characteristics of British and American newspaper articles, this paper analyzes the ideological viewpoints, text layout, language skills and rhetorical devices of the articles, so as to further improve students' reading comprehension ability and ideological expression ability.
