How to correctly understand and strive to build a harmonious relationship between the police and the people is a major issue with overall significance in the current public security work.

The relationship between the police and the people refers to the rights, obligations and interpersonal relationships formed between the police and the people in various police activities such as cracking down on crimes and providing social services. As long as the country exists and crimes are not eliminated, the relationship between the police and the people will always exist, which is objective and inevitable. On the other hand, the relationship between the police and the people is a kind of right and obligation relationship formed by the police and the public in carrying out various policing activities. This relationship is based on law and is different from the general interpersonal relationship. The extension of the relationship between the police and the people is always in a dynamic process of constant change and development. The harmonious relationship between police and people is put forward in view of the disharmony between police and people, and it is put forward in view of all kinds of disharmonious phenomena, imbalances and even conflicts in the relationship between police and people at this stage. Harmonious relationship between the police and the people means that the relationship between the police and the people has reached an equal, balanced and harmonious state, that is, the police take maintaining social stability as their bounden duty and the people take promoting national development as their duty.

Judging from the successful experiences of various places, positive policing mechanism, caring for the sufferings of the masses and doing good deeds for the masses are good ways and methods to win the trust of the people and close the relationship between the police and the people. Management section and community police, living and working among the masses every day, have a better understanding of their difficulties, wishes and demands. As long as they can do it, they should try their best to help them solve it. If the police can't solve it by themselves, they should report to their superiors in time or negotiate with relevant departments to solve it. Doing so will win the trust and respect of the masses, and the masses will actively assist the public security organs and police to do all kinds of public security work.

Fourth, from the perspective of interpersonal relationship, establish and improve an effective communication mechanism with the masses as soon as possible, and change one-way communication into two-way communication. Public security organs and police should strengthen communication with the masses. On the one hand, they should listen to the voices of the masses seriously and widely; On the other hand, as far as possible, we should publicize policies and regulations to the masses through various forms, and make public the code of conduct and rules and regulations of public security organs and police. This will not only facilitate the masses to understand and abide by laws and regulations, but also enable the masses to participate in some activities to prevent and crack down on crimes, and also supervise the activities of public security organs and police to avoid violating the law and discipline and abusing power for personal gain. One-way communication, such as sitting in the office, receiving letters and visits (one-way communication: people → police), or holding meetings to publicize policies and regulations (one-way communication: police → people), is no longer suitable for the needs of the changed situation. Public security organs and police should regularly visit residents' homes to communicate (two-way communication: people → police), make friends with people, listen to the truth and care for each other.
