Hyperactivity disorder, full name attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, ADHD for short. ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder that occurs in childhood. With the increase of age, about 1/3 children's attention function has developed well before adulthood, and it is no longer ADHD. The part of ADHD children whose attention is not well developed, when they reach adulthood, their attention is still significantly lower than the average level and they become adult ADHD patients.
According to the official data of China, the incidence of ADHD in children is 6.8%, but I feel that at least 10% is working. Anyway, half of ADHD children have not been examined and diagnosed. Parents may be unwilling to go to the hospital for examination because they are afraid of illness and doctors, or let it go, thinking that it would be better to be older; Or just go to some institutions to do some attention training. For most children with ADHD, this kind of help is far from enough.
A relative of a friend's family, a first-grade boy, can only do 1/3 on the math paper. A friend suggested that parents take their children to check their attention. At first, parents were very active and immediately registered to take their children for examination. As a result, after a week, I feel that the child will grow up, which is not a problem. I also rationalize that my math is not good and my children are not good at math. If this mother's study is really poor since childhood, it may be that ADHD is indeed passed on to her children. However, children can completely avoid this kind of pain, and ADHD is not incurable.
According to foreign statistics, the heritability of ADHD is about 90%. Of course, it is not the parents who pay attention, but the children must pay attention. Many parents of my ADHD students are famous schools. Whether a child is ADHD is related to genetic factors, congenital development and acquired environment. Generally speaking, congenital factors have a greater influence than the nurturing environment.
What effect does ADHD have on children? Simply put, it will make life particularly difficult.
Because of ADHD, the function of frontal lobe is not well developed, and related cognitive function, decision-making function, executive function and self-regulation function may be affected.
Attention, memory and comprehension will all be affected. This is the part that parents are most concerned about. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is mostly concerned by parents because of frequent daydreaming and learning difficulties.
Children with serious attention problems, even with good intelligence, will encounter difficulties in learning because the information they absorb is fragmented. For example, if you can't listen to anything in group class, you need parents to teach it again or make up lessons one by one. During the exam, I knew all the questions, but I was often "sloppy" or suddenly distracted, so I couldn't finish the paper.
For adults, it may cause a lot of work and interpersonal difficulties.
For example, when talking to others, I often lose my mind and listen involuntarily, which leads to difficulties in interpersonal communication and work. People will think that they don't respect people or have a bad work attitude.
Another example is forgetfulness, often losing necessities in work or activities or forgetting one's own work tasks. People with serious problems may lose more than a dozen mobile phones.
Another example is carelessness, which may not be a problem for ordinary work, but IT is a fatal problem for engineers, IT industry, accounting and financial industry.
Even your own goals can't be achieved. The most common ones are what we call procrastination and violation of discipline.
For example, many ADHD children don't intentionally violate discipline, but they just can't control themselves to answer the phone, make small moves or harass their classmates. They will also be slow to respond because they are easily distracted, and queuing practice always can't keep up with the rhythm, so they are considered to have no sense of collective honor. They will be labeled as bad children and bear a lot of pressure that they should not bear at this age. Therefore, under the long-term negative feedback, the incidence of emotional disorders in ADHD children is much higher than that in ordinary children.
Or be impatient, start without end, forget things, often be distracted and so on. One of my students told me that in the process of preparing for good study, he always forgets what he wants to do.
The dilemma of these people as adults is that their attention jumps from person to person, or they are "staring at the computer and their minds are blank", and it is always difficult to finish the work before the deadline. Many students can't finish their papers, which will affect their graduation.
It is difficult for people with ADHD to make correct decisions, especially those with ADHD/impulsiveness. They often let themselves do dangerous and meaningless things.
For example, an adult ADHD girl, when she was 5 years old, dragged her 2-year-old neighbor and sister around at night, scaring her parents half to death. She once rode a bicycle down a big slope and fell a lot of needles.
Singer Jackson Wang had ADHD when he was a child (I don't know now). When he takes a shower after training, he has to climb to the wall of the cubicle to see the people next door. I slipped and had a lot of stitches. He doesn't understand what's good about doing this now and why he did it at that time. The brain circuit of ADHD patients is different from that of ordinary people, and they often make decisions that are difficult for ordinary people to understand.
With the increase of age, the self-control ability of ADHD will increase a little, and the behavior will be more subtle. They may seem quiet and honest, but there is no way to really calm down. They will set up mobile phones for a while and eat for a while. If you want to do something quiet, such as meditation, you will feel uncomfortable all over. They also tend to disobey the rules in their daily life. They love speeding, blindly changing lanes and parking in boxes. They are also more likely to have games, alcohol, drugs and other addictive behaviors.
Emotional regulation is also an important function of frontal lobe. ADHD patients generally have poor emotional adjustment ability. They may be weak in emotional perception, impulsive, irritable and prone to lose their temper. They may also be emotionally sensitive, easily nervous, depressed or anxious.
The incidence of anxiety, depression and bipolar disorder in ADHD patients is much higher than that in the general population. Several of my teenage students suffer from ADHD and emotional disorder, and primary school students with ADHD are generally anxious when they first come to class.
At present, many doctors still believe that ADHD is incurable and can only take medicine to control symptoms. But in fact, since there are 1/3 ADHD children who can develop well before adulthood and get rid of the diagnosis of ADHD, why can't ADHD be cured? As long as the method is correct, it can stimulate the development of frontal lobe function.
We have helped many children diagnosed in the hospital to cure ADHD. But from time to time, someone commented under my article that ADHD can't be cured, and I have no temper. You know, there are still many people in the world who don't believe that the earth is round.
Many people subconsciously think that others can't do what they can't do. This is obviously irrational.
As for adult ADHD, can it be cured? According to the principle of lifelong plasticity of the brain, this is possible, but it is hard to say how it will progress. Severe ADHD, intervene as soon as possible. For those mild ADHD, if parents are more tolerant and don't put pressure on their children, they can really wait for their children to develop well.
