Do ants only know the original route?

One sunny afternoon, I saw ants coming out of the hole in a hurry and returning the same way. It suddenly occurred to me that ants only know the original route.

So I did a comparative experiment. First, find two ant holes facing west. Two pieces of cardboard were erected on both sides of the hole, and their road was blocked with cardboard. Put a piece of food in front of the cardboard to let the ants pass smoothly.

I made the same arrangement on both sides of another ant hole. I'll take off the cardboard first so that the ants can come out smoothly. Then, when the ants bite the food and move back to the hole, I quickly put two tall and hard cardboard in the middle of the circle, waiting for the ants to move the food here. My heart is full of questions: "Are ants walking around or turning over this cardboard?" Through observation, I was surprised to find that the ants didn't go around, but turned over from the cardboard.

Later, when I checked the information, I knew that when the ants came out, they left a smell in the place where they passed. When it goes back, as long as it follows the smell, it will definitely find the hole, so the ant only knows the original route.
