Discovery of fish fossils in Kunming
Myllokunmingia, the highest known animal fossil in the early life of the earth.

1October 4th, 1999, 165438+ Nature, an authoritative scientific journal recognized by international academic circles, published an epoch-making paper on earth life science with the highest specification, namely, vertebrates of early Cambrian in South China, and introduced two kinds of fish fossils found in the stratum of early Cambrian Zhu Qian Temple in Yunnan, China 530 million years ago. These two fish fossils advanced the understanding of vertebrates by about 40 million years, which is another major breakthrough in the study of animal evolution in the early earth.

1In August, 1997, geologists from Yunnan Academy of Geological Sciences visited Haikou, Kunming, and found something very different from Yunnan insect chordates in Chengjiang fauna. It turned out to be a fish, a vertebrate, and more advanced than a chordate. This discovery was studied with the Institute of Early Life of Northwest University, and it was named Haikou Fish. 199865438+February, experts found the second vertebrate fossil in Haikou, Kunming, named Kunming fish.

1In April, 999, at the International Conference on Important Events of the Origin and Evolution of Early Vertebrates, scientists from China showed the photos of these two kinds of fish fossils to the conference, which caused a strong sensation. Experts agree that this is the highest known animal fossil in the early stage of life on earth, and this discovery represents the most important key breakthrough in the study of CAMBRIAN life explosion. Well-known paleontologists in Britain and Germany believe that this is an amazing discovery and one of the most important scientific achievements in the field of international paleontology in the 20th century.
