A major requirement is a website that integrates natural coastal features and historical industrial elements. The design brings the edge of the port, port machinery, railway tracks and sea containers into an interesting new experience, and at the same time reflects the seaside characteristics of the site. The design also celebrates the historical events, memories and forms of Zhanjiang Port. The artistic response of the team is to design some sculptures, which can be used as both deductive art and on-site furniture. Weathered steel, perforated steel plate and recycled wood are selected to correspond to the materials used in the port, so that the site has a strong and durable feeling.
Some parts of the factory are polluted by heavy industry. Grassland path is a part of the overall planning, which was established as a temporary intervention measure before the next phase of the project. Grassland is a strategy to restore soil, and it can also provide a comfortable and unique port experience. Fountain grass is chosen for many reasons. First of all, it is effective in plant restoration. Secondly, it is chosen because of its tolerance to coastal environment and its interaction with wind. Secondly, it is the aesthetic charm of plants and the ability to create unforgettable landscape experiences. Since then, this area has become a popular attraction to attract tourists, especially at sunset and throughout the weekend. When people walk in the tall grass, they will take pictures of their friends and family.
Zhanjiang Wharf Park has increased the much-needed open space for the surrounding communities. In the context of a new port city and shipping port, the project has created a grand gesture, connecting communities, history and ecology.
