The Analects of Confucius, Mencius, Daxue and The Doctrine of the Mean. The four original texts refer to The Analects of Confucius, Mencius, University and The Doctrine of the Mean. These four books, referred to as "Four Books" for short, are all Confucian classics, and were listed as "Notes on Four Books" by the Southern Song Dynasty philosopher Zhu. The Analects of Confucius is a record of words and deeds of Confucius and his disciples, Mencius is a record of words and deeds of Mencius and his disciples, Daxue is a paper on university education by Confucian scholars, and The Doctrine of the Mean is also a paper on the Doctrine of the Mean by Confucian scholars.
