1997 approved by the Jiangsu provincial department of education, the college of law and politics was established. As the first professional college of Jiangsu Normal University, after years of running and development, it has accumulated profound knowledge and overall strength.

The College of Law and Politics has specialties such as law, international trade law, ideological and political education, political science and administration, and social work. It has two first-class master's programs in Marxist theory and philosophy, and eight master's programs in Marxist philosophy, basic principles of Marxism, development history of Marxism, study of Marxism in China, history of China, ideological and political education, ethics, curriculum and teaching theory (ideological and political education) and ideological and political education.

The college consists of political education department, political science and administration department, law department and sociology department, as well as ethics research center (school level), China Historical Party Building Research Institute (school level), philosophy research institute, legal aid center for college students (city level) and social investigation and social work research center. The college has a strong academic atmosphere. Teachers have undertaken a number of national, provincial and ministerial scientific research projects, and many scientific research achievements have won ministerial and provincial scientific research achievement awards, and many achievements have won the "Five One Projects Award" of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League and Jiangsu Province. He publishes nearly 200 academic papers or works every year, forming a good academic group in philosophy, politics, law, sociology and other disciplines.

The college insists on cultivating talents with "first-class moral quality, first-class professional quality, first-class practical level and first-class innovative ability", and adheres to the educational principle of "cultivating people by virtue", paying special attention to the cultivation of college students' personality and practical skills, and has formed the talent training characteristics of "attaching importance to personality shaping-being upright, being edified by humanity, being solid in literacy and being professionally trained".

The College has been awarded the honorary title of "Advanced Class of College Students' Social Practice" by jiangsu provincial party committee Propaganda Department, Provincial Education Department, Communist Youth League Committee and Provincial Federation of Students for eight consecutive years. In August, 2007, the undergraduate class of social work in 2004 was jointly commended by the Ministry of Education and the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League as "National Advanced Class Collective", and its running situation was praised by People's Daily, China Education Daily, Guangming Daily and Xinhua Daily for many times.
