This major is the awarding point of doctoral and master's degrees.

This major was founded by Professor Wu, a famous educator and linguist of the older generation, in 1950s, and the first batch of master's degrees were awarded 198 1. Mr. Hu, a famous linguist, has long been the leader of this major, guiding the construction of this major.

The main research directions of this major include: linguistic theory research, syntax and semantics research, phonology research, sociolinguistics research, teaching Chinese as a foreign language theory research and computational linguistics research.

This major trains high-quality language research and application talents with solid linguistic professional knowledge, independent scientific research ability, good theoretical literacy and practical ability.

At present, there are 5 professors, 7 associate professors and 2 lecturers in this major, 85% of whom have doctoral degrees. At present, doctoral supervisors include Professor Yang He, Professor Jin Song, Professor Zhang Weiguo and Professor Duke of Snowy Night.

Yang He doctoral supervisor of linguistics and applied linguistics.

Yang He, male, born in 1955, Beijinger, professor, doctoral supervisor. 65438-0985 was admitted to the Chinese Department of Renmin University of China, studying for a master's degree in general linguistics, and studying under Professor Hu. 1988 stayed on as a teacher after graduation. In 2005, he received a doctorate from the College of Literature of China Renmin University. At present, he is the vice president of the School of Literature of China Renmin University, the editor-in-chief of Linguistics copied by the National People's Congress, and the executive director and deputy secretary-general of the Beijing Language Society. In 2006, he was awarded the title of "Excellent Teacher in Beijing".

His research fields include Beijing dialect, modern Chinese grammar, language contact, etc. He has participated in and presided over research projects such as Beijing dialect research, modern Chinese part-of-speech survey, modern Chinese syntax survey, indirect language contact case survey and theoretical research, and Chinese international promotion research.

Professor Wu Hongyun (1963-), female, from Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, Ph.D. in linguistics, doctoral supervisor, visiting scholar at Edinburgh University (1999-2000), Fulbright project research scholar in the United States (University of Minnesota, September 2008). He is currently a professor at the School of Foreign Languages of Renmin University of China, a doctoral supervisor of foreign linguistics and applied linguistics at the College of Liberal Arts, a member of the editorial board of China English Teaching magazine, and a standing director of the National English Writing Teaching and Research Association. He studied in Wuhan University, Tsinghua University, Singapore National Institute of Education, Edinburgh University and Beijing Foreign Studies University.
