Protecting Yunnan golden monkey, a rare animal, is the most inspiring environmental protection event since the establishment of Friends of Nature. 1995 In autumn, Liang Congjie heard a bad news: the habitat of Yunnan golden monkey was seriously threatened!
In order to solve the financial difficulties, the government of Deqin County, Yunnan Province decided to cut down more than 100 square kilometers of virgin forest. Xi Zhinong, an employee of Yunnan Forestry Department who filmed Yunnan golden monkey in Baima Snow Mountain, was very angry after hearing the news. He ran around and complained about the fate of the golden monkey, to no avail. In desperation, Xi wrote to Tang Xiyang, editor-in-chief of Nature magazine in Beijing, about the critical situation faced by Yunnan golden monkey. When Mr. Tang wrote to Song Jian, director of the State Environmental Protection Committee, he conveyed this dangerous situation to Liang Congjie.
Upon hearing the news, Liang Congjie immediately reported and spread the fact that the living environment of Yunnan golden monkey was threatened in the newspaper through members of the "Friends of Nature" press. Then, he directly wrote to the relevant leaders of the central government to appeal, and got clear instructions from the two central leaders to stop the deforestation of natural virgin forests in Deqin County, Yunnan Province.
From 1997 to 1998, "Friends of Nature" continuously received news that Tibetan antelopes were hunted in Hoh Xil, and also received many photos of Tibetan antelopes being hunted. Those shocking photos touched Liang Congjie's heart. He decided to join the Wild Yak Team to save the Tibetan antelope. 1On May 24th, 999, 67-year-old Liang Congjie and several members of "Friends of Nature" climbed the Kunlun Mountain Pass at an altitude of 4,600 meters in Hoh Xil and burned 373 Tibetan antelope skins seized from poachers in front of Sonandajie Nature Reserve.
At the Fortune Forum in 2002, Mr. Liang questioned the global economic giants: "It is not enough to let more than one billion people in China live your life and supply all the world's energy to China in exchange for market share. This is not only a disaster for China, but also a disaster for the world. Have you thought about what responsibility you have to bear? " Everything starts with simplicity, which is Mr. Liang's life track: the business card is copied from waste paper; Never use disposable chopsticks; Insist on using bicycles as a means of transportation. On one occasion, he rode to attend a CPPCC meeting and was stopped by a guard. It turns out that people have never heard of or seen CPPCC members riding bicycles to meetings.
Liang Congjie also led the members of Friends of Nature to do the following work:
(1) For the first time in China, a mass environmental education activity was held, and a "green lecture" was organized to popularize environmental protection knowledge for members and the public, with an audience of more than 2,000 people. In recent years, one of the most popular environmental protection children's books, Earth Home, was published.
(2) This non-governmental organization held an exchange training activity for primary and secondary school teachers on environmental education for the first time, and twice organized primary and secondary school teachers to go to Germany and the Netherlands for study tours on school environmental education.
(3) The newspaper environmental awareness survey was conducted in China for the first time. For three consecutive years, the environmental protection reports of major domestic newspapers were systematically counted and analyzed, and their environmental awareness was scientifically evaluated.
(4) Put forward suggestions to relevant central departments on major environmental issues such as Beijing's environmental pollution control and ecological protection at the source of rivers through China People's Political Consultative Conference and other channels.
(5) For the first time, China organized volunteers to plant trees in the Three North Areas at their own expense, which lasted for many years.
(6) In order to publicize the importance of protecting wild birds, China organized the first mass amateur birdwatching group.
(7) In order to protect ecological resources and stop the wave of hunting wild animals on a large scale, 1999 organized a number of environmental protection groups in Beijing to issue a proposal of "Don't buy, don't cook and don't eat game".
(8) Communicate with foreign environmental protection organizations and media to publicize China's environmental policies and folk environmental protection activities.
