In the Song Dynasty, this day was also the birthday of the sage blessed by the Arctic. On this day, competitions to meet the gods were held in various places. "Liang Lumeng" says: "The earth burns incense and the temples are diversified. Each temple and Taoist temple has its own things, praying for the prosperity of the country and ensuring the safety of the people. The incense in military camps and temples is arranged by the society, tied in pavilions and greeted on the road. "
Earlier, people went to the water to pick orchids to drive away evil spirits. Later, it evolved into a festival of feasting and spring outing by the water in the suburbs. Du Fu has two poems about the journey: On the third day of the third month, the weather was fresh and many beautiful women were walking along the Chang 'an River.
In addition, women all over the country bring shepherd's purse flowers on this day. According to Song Zanning's "Birds of a feather flock together", "Pick shepherd's purse flowers on March 3 and hang them on the neck of the lamp. Moths and mosquitoes don't throw them." The Journey to the West, Rucheng, Tian Ming said: "On March 3rd, both men and women wear shepherd's purse flowers."
Another custom of thinking is Perrin or Du Ruo. According to legend, King Zhao of Zhou ascended the throne for 20 years, and the Yue people in Dong 'ou presented two women, one named Yan Juan and the other named Yan Entertainment, both of whom were beautiful and delicate, eloquent and good at singing and laughing. They walk without leaving footprints, and there is no shadow in the sun. On one occasion, they accompanied Wang Zhao to visit the Yangtze River and Hanshui River. Unfortunately, they all fell into the water with Wang Zhao and died. So in Jianghan area, people still miss them, and the ancestral temple was built by the river. Ten years later, people can see two women rowing on the river and playing by the water with Zhao Haoqi every day. On Shangsi Festival in late spring, people gather in front of the ancestral temple to offer sacrifices: some bring sweet and fresh fruits, wrap them in duran leaves and sink into the water; Some packages are wrapped in colorful threads and tied with metal. In this way, dragons will not infringe on their gods. Therefore, this ancestral temple is called "Zhaozuo Temple". (Excerpted from Tai Ping Guang Ji)
