After graduation, I jumped ship for the first time and came to an Internet of Things company. Back in college, I am familiar with the feeling of being surrounded by a lot of smart devices every day. I have some opinions on products, technology and life. I take the time to write them down.
The word Internet of Things has been said for many years. I have been engaged in mobile Internet related work since graduation. Naturally, I am familiar with it. The Internet of Things is the collaborative work of a large number of intelligent devices. But when I deeply understand this field and really come into contact with the products of the Internet of Things, it is difficult for me to say clearly what the Internet of Things is. Relatives or friends asked me what my new job was, and it was difficult for me to describe it clearly, not only the equipment, not only the software and hardware, not only the data, not only the scenes ... Now I can understand that some Zhihu gods' answers about the Internet of Things used some very empty and ethereal words: there are entrances everywhere, everything is connected, and the boundaries no longer exist. This is not pretending to be deep, and it really can't be described clearly in one or two sentences.
I also understand the Internet of Things in this illusory way, starting with two familiar poems to understand two words often mentioned in the Internet of Things: "connection" and "data".
This poem describes the ancient people's understanding of the word "connection". At this moment, people all over the world see the same moon, through which everyone is connected. It can be seen that from ancient times to the present, people have some vague ideas that connect everyone through one thing. Finally, today Tencent has accomplished this mission, and WeChat allows people to communicate instantly, thus realizing the vision of being neighbors with the sky. Writing here, I think that the startup interface of WeChat is also Leng Yue, which is a bit like my picture. I wonder if the design inspiration also wants to express the contemporary WeChat, like the ancient moon, bearing the mission of connection. The water quality, velocity and temperature in the river are different every second. When your left foot enters a river and your right foot enters another river, its water quality, velocity and temperature are different. Even if they are the same, they have different meanings. We need to record the data of every moment so that the long river of history can be analyzed.
The Internet of Things system should connect people, people and things, things and things, record and analyze historical data, perceive data changes all the time, and provide the most timely service at the most appropriate time. For example, your physical condition changes every second, and the weather changes every second. We need to build many data models based on your sleep yesterday and your skin characteristics today. We may also need to integrate the knowledge map of TCM and psychology, tell you what soup is best for you to drink now, and even tell the cooker what the firepower is per second, and calculate the thermodynamic curve, so that the stewed soup is best for you to drink after two hours.
Actually, when I write here, I will think of my parents. Whenever I come home, they will ask me how I slept last night, then guess that I am suffering from yin deficiency and fire, and then stew a bitter gourd and soybean soup for me to drink. Your parents often do similar things. Now machines can do these things, and instead of guessing, they can transform the analysis results into equipment services through accurate data collection, multi-dimensional data analysis and various knowledge maps.
Well, after writing the mystery, I still have to figure out what I do, what is the business structure of the company, and what is my position in the whole business process. In fact, I didn't know my job responsibilities during the interview or even before I joined the company. After I got the offer, I had a deep understanding of the Internet of Things, realized its charm, and judged that the company's R&D strength could control the charm of the Internet of Things. I didn't know much about the work content, so I joined the job. Now I have been employed for two weeks and have a certain understanding of the company's business structure. Let's focus on the product manager to sort out the business process.
Corporate business: The company mainly faces B-end customers, providing industry solutions with data services as the core, providing service platforms and open platforms, making the snowball of data bigger and bigger and playing the role of "brain" behind the scenes. On the other hand, two small product lines are also seen at the bottom of the picture, one is Internet products, and the other is hardware equipment, which is both Internet products and hardware development. Although the effort is small, it can be seen that the company has not given up the idea of going from behind the scenes to the front.
Department structure: from the perspective of external department structure, it is very unclear. There are two subsidiaries and several departments, and each department has its own product manager and developer. With overlapping functions and self-contained departments, it is difficult to clarify the dependence of various departments. According to the business process, I can be divided into three types of product managers from the perspective of product managers. The first category is the product managers in the marketing department, who are at the forefront of business processes and directly meet customer needs. The second category is IOT product managers in the middle of business processes, who integrate all resources to create application scenarios for business transformation. The third category is the AI product manager at the back end of the business process, responsible for the landing of artificial intelligence products and the needs of the data brain.
My post: I am the product manager of the second kind of Internet of Things mentioned above, responsible for the creation of scenes and the opening of data, so as to combine algorithms with the use of scenes. As can be seen from the figure, the products in charge can be summarized as "one horizontal and two vertical", "one horizontal" is a platform-based project, including B-side open platform and C-side super APP "two vertical" are family scenes and business scenes respectively. Family scenes include sleeping product line, beauty product line, home appliance product line, and more business scenes: smart campus, smart farm, medical health, pension, hotel, water ecology ... These scenes and data need to be interrelated.
20 13 After graduation, I worked in my last company. My old boss was a TV manufacturer and stayed for five years. Many friends have also asked me why I stayed in a TV terminal company for so long. The interviewer will also ask this question when looking for a job. Why does the company that has stayed for so long leave now? My professional logic is this:
Why did I stay in a TV terminal company for so long? Because of its wide scope of work, I can learn a wide range of knowledge. Cutting-edge technologies involve big data, AI, voice, module products such as shopping, content and social networking in the field of mobile Internet, and smart device products in the field of hardware. The terminal company has a wide range of business. If you are interested in a certain field, you can find a corresponding project to do and then study in depth. For example, even if I am interested in the export industry, TV now has a built-in takeaway APP. Through the project and independent in-depth study, I can transfer to a company in the vertical field of takeaway. But if the company is in the field of take-away, it is more difficult to transfer to the terminal company, which is the advantage of the terminal company.
In recent years, with the rapid development of the Internet, many new technologies and new models broke out instantly and soon declined. Today, bicycle sharing competes with each other, and tomorrow, short videos will be distributed all over the world. Now, unmanned retail is booming, where will the blockchain go? ... I don't know which direction is right or which vertical field is suitable. So I choose to stay on a big platform and see the current situation clearly before I act.
With the growth of age and experience, I can see through something gradually. Personally, I feel that the development of mobile Internet has reached a bottleneck and the new model has dried up. Product differentiation can only be reflected in the operation. There are not many opportunities, so I gave up the idea of entering the mobile Internet. In the past two years, artificial intelligence has risen quietly, and we can strongly feel the changes it has brought. It will penetrate into every corner of our lives like the mobile Internet. At the 4th world internet conference, Baidu Robin Li also mentioned that the demographic dividend of China Internet is gone, but the opportunity of AI has come. There are indications that artificial intelligence is the right choice. Therefore, I abandoned some work experience of mobile Internet attributes and chose "one direction, two scenarios": the direction of AI and two scenarios of AI empowerment, one is a robot and the other is a smart home. Then prepare your resume, interview, and finally come to the current Internet of Things company. Although the position is not AI product manager, it is easy to work closely with the AI team and call its resources. It is also easy to learn AI technology in depth.
Next stage:
At the business level, I hope I can get started as soon as possible, adapt to the new job and show my due value in my work. At present, we will start with the "one vertical" in the "one horizontal and two vertical", that is, the family scene product line, and then we will contact the product line of the commercial industry and then go to the horizontal platform project. Finally, it extends to the front and back end, and the learning category penetrates the core technology of AI and the business needs of various vertical industries, and strives to become a full-stack talent.
At the professional level, my product experience is not enough at present. I am a junior and executive product manager. I hope that through hard work, I can develop into a product manager with a certain say in planning and eventually become a product manager with a certain influence in strategy.
In life, it seems that I have been single for a long time, so I take time to find a girlfriend. I have been employed for two weeks, and I think that's it. Above all, let's encourage each other.
