Air China is a state-owned enterprise and a central enterprise. Headquartered in Beijing, it is the only civil airline flying the national flag in China. China Air China is referred to as China International Airlines Co., Ltd. and its English name is Air China Limited. Its predecessor, China International Airlines, was established in 1988.

Air China is a member of Star Alliance, the largest aviation alliance in the world. It is also the official air passenger transport partner of the 2008 Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Games and the official air passenger transport partner of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympic Games.

In all aspects of air passenger transport, freight transport and related services, it is in a leading position in China.
