The Kuomintang army, which suffered repeated defeats on the battlefield, also blew Chen Mingren into the sky like a stimulant. Even the fortifications built by Chen Mingren in Siping became the "Chen Mingren defense line" followed by Kuomintang troops.
After Chen Cheng commanded the Northeast War, according to the fortifications in Siping, he put forward "strong fortifications with key points". Until1May, 949, Chiang Kai-shek personally arranged the Battle of Songhu in Shanghai, and traces of imitation Siping can still be seen in the fortifications in Shanghai.
Liu Handong, chairman of the Kuomintang in northern Liaoning and fellow countryman of Jiangsu and Zhejiang in Chen Cheng, took the opportunity to report Chen Mingren's "robbery of grain by soldiers". Chen was at odds with Chen Mingren and worried that he had no chance, so he asked Chiang Kai-shek to investigate Chen Mingren that day.
Chiang Kai-shek read his exploits and dismissed Chen Mingren, but did not pursue it. Later, he was transferred to the presidential palace as a lieutenant general to join the army. After graduating from the first phase of Whampoa Military Academy, Chen Mingren was deeply appreciated by Chiang Kai-shek for his bravery.
Later, Chiang Kai-shek thought that he was strong-willed, domineering and difficult to control, so he was not reused. During and after the Anti-Japanese War, he served as the deputy commander and commander of the 7 1 Army, and was later promoted to the commander of the 7 th Corps until he gained a foothold in Siping Street. Because Chen Mingren's qualifications are relatively old, and he is aggressive, most of the officers at or above the regimental level are personally promoted by him, and subordinates think that following him will not suffer.
Chen Mingren is strict in running the army, and the conditions for selecting officials are simple and practical: First, he is not afraid of death; Second, he is unmarried; Third, he is familiar with the art of war; Fourth, he is a good marksman; So his men fought tenaciously and were more effective. Unfortunately, under Chiang Kai-shek's rule, this did not work.
Before Liaoshen Campaign, Chen Mingren was transferred to Wuhan as the deputy commander of Central China's "suppression general". At this time, he was influenced by Cheng Qian and tended to be peaceful. Chen Mingren and Cheng Qian are fellow villagers in Liling and students in Cheng Qian, so they cooperate with each other. Mr. Zhang once wrote to Chen Mingren, asking him to recognize the situation, see the future and take refuge in the people.
Chen Mingxin, the younger brother captured in Siping, was released from the northeast and returned to Nanjing. He told him a message from his compatriot Li, and described the fact that the prisoner was well treated. Some good friends also encouraged him to grasp some strength as "capital" in order to make a comeback and make another living. All this touched Chen Mingren greatly. Chen Mingren is an open-minded person. Although he decided to resist, he kept a serious expression on the surface.
To confuse Chiang Kai-shek, he even appeared as an anti-Communist. Chen Mingren called the city government officials to speak, claiming to fight * * * to the end and resolutely follow the instructions of the Kuomintang government. But in private, he said to the people around him, I promise Changsha can't hear gunshots.
At this time, the troops of the Four Fields who fought bloody battles with Chen Mingren in Siping also let bygones be bygones, and sent representatives of peace talks to Pingjiang County, Hunan Province, to hold peace talks with representatives of Cheng Qian and Chen Mingren, and to discuss with each other the specific matters of the Changsha Uprising.
From August 2nd to 6th, 1949, Mao Zedong called Lin Biao and others three times, demanding that Chen Mingren be treated properly. Chiang Kai-shek was really worried about Chen Mingren. Until a few days before the Changsha Uprising, Chen Mingren and Chiang Kai-shek also sent personal letters from his cronies, Huang Jie and Deng Wenyi, and large amounts of cash and weapons.
The letter said: "I should cherish the glorious historical sites of my life. I am convinced of Chiang Kai-shek. I should be ashamed to associate with those who sell their lives to take refuge. If necessary, I will punish them at the expense of my family, and then retreat to Xiangxi, with Sichuan as the backing in the future ... "
